Default Raiders: Collins decision still pending

Josh Dubow, of the Associated Press, reports the Oakland Raiders still have a decision to make regarding QB Kerry Collins. The Raiders still have to decide whether to stick with Collins, who will count $12.9 million against the salary cap next season. "He is an exciting quarterback," head coach Art Shell said. "I think he has a chance to be great for us. But those issues will be addressed down the road."

He is an exciting quarterback

Ya really exciting when he's under a heavy rush!

That's one hell of a cap number he's got there. He'll restructure or he'll be gone.

Many fans seem to want him gone, so maybe they will listen to them and draft domeone.

Or maybe Walter could be the future?

I think they get rid of him. That too big of a cap number, and also he's getting up there in age, and oh yeah, he's not that good. I think they draft a new qb. They have the sixth pick, and I don't know about you but for some reason I could see Matt Leinhart there. I think he would like it there cause he could stay in cali and he'll have Randy moss. Just look at the draft order. 1.texans obviously will get bush, 2. New orleans, It depends what they do with Brooks, they have the best shot of landind Leinhart, but if they don't get him the Rayturds will. 3. Titans have norm chow but Mcnair has mentored Vince Young. Vince seems like a perfect fit there. first they get moon, then mcnair then young. all very athletic and good arms. 4. Jets they probably will stay with Pennington and if they don't they probably want a rb cause Martin is up there and now starting to get injuries, and is not that productive as he once was. 5. green bay has rogers if brett calls it quite. 6. is the raiders. So I say if New orleans dosn't get leinhart, wich wouldnt suprise me, raiders have the best shot. as I said before, I don't know why, but I can see Leinhart as a Raider.

This is one of those Win/Win deals. Almost that entire amount comes right off the cap with very little bonus acceleration.

As far as QB, who knows? Andrew Walter was supposedly Al's hand picked QB of the future. I suspect we'll land a Kitna type as a bridge to Walter.

I dont see us getting one of the QB's, we're rumored to be looking hard at AJ Hawk from one thing I read.

I thought I heard somewhere that Baltimore might be interested in him, Jim Fassell always brought out the best in Collins.

I really hope the raiders don't get leinhart and the Saints grab him.

I'm probably among the minority but I think that Collins is a pretty good QB as long as he gets good protection from the OL. The raiders seemed to have a few problems there.

It's the way they structured his deal. The idea was to rent him for 2 years, the final years are kinda bogus. Kinda like the way Derrick Gibson is on the books for a 10 million dollar base salary this season. Those 2 players represent 22 million of our 30 million overage, and are never going to see that money.

It's either Collins (with a restructure), Walter, or a veteran "Kitna Type" brought in as a bridge to Walter. I really dont see Tuiasapsopo fitting into their plans.
