According to Matt Singer, the Montana Republican Party issued an E-brief to the party faithful last Friday that charges some Republicans in the U.S. Senate, Republicans in the Montana State Legislature and State Senator Jon Tester are weak on national security because they don’t support provisions of the Patriot Act that would allow the government to use wiretaps or to review your library or medical records with very little cause.

So much for the party of strict constructionism. In the view of the Montana GOP, the Constitution is just a set of guidelines that can be quickly dismissed when it is politically expedient. The Montana GOP, and its national counterpart, would have Big Brother watching your every move and reporting it to the authorities, if only enough Republicans would fall into line. Damn Senators Craig, Murkowski and Sununu for assisting those liberal do-gooders and attempting to uphold the Constitution.

Men like Jon Tester who stand up for our constitutional rights are labeled unpatriotic, because they don’t automatically get ramrod straight, salute and fall in line behind the wingnuts who are running our country. Memo to the Montana GOP: blindly following those in power down the path to a fascist dictatorship is not exercising leadership.

It’s also noteworthy that Senator Conrad Burns wasn’t listed as one who was defending the Constitution. Perhaps he’s been too busy cozying up to Jack Abramoff and the special interests to bother upholding his oath to defend the Constitution.

I also find it ironic that, much like the national GOP, the Montana GOP is engaging in an internal battle of ideological purity with its own; in a race to the far right. Apparently, he who gets to the extreme right first, wins, and anybody who is less than ideologically pure is also unpatriotic.

Well, we all knew 9/11 would change everything. At one point, I had hope that it would unite the country, and the world. If only the worst president in history wasn't in power.

People are just scared now...

One of my most vivid memories of 9/11 was watching people run (in panic) out of the TCBY tower in Little Rock Arkansas. We're talking about a small tower in the middle of Little Rock of all places...

Yet these people where scared to death.

At that point I knew that what had happened was much more damaging than even the loss of life that day.

Cozying up to Jack Abramoff and the "special interests"

Nice turn of phrase. THE special interests. Which ones are those? Like the author and those he supports are removed from such evil doers. As though "special interests" is an independent entity with which only one person has dealings. Anyone who falls for the "special interests" line is a f***ing rube.

I said nothing regarding Abramoff's dealings. Simply that, by linking Abramoff with THE "special interests" the author intends to imply that special interests are evil, which is a position with which I disagree. The author is THE special interest.

You bet your arse they exist. They exist for EVERYBODY, every individual is a special interest and is represented in DC in some way. I don't give a **** if you oppose circumcision, you have a special interest. I mention that one specifically because I have actually witnessed protestors on the issue. It seems irrelevant and stupid, but there they were...f***ing up my commute. Funny though.
