SKILLS CHALLENGE: Following Friday morning's practice at Aloha Stadium, Smith adjourned back to the Ihilani resort in Ko Olina to particpate in the "Best Hands" portion of the Pro Bowl Skills Challenge, where he finished two seconds behind Torry Holt of the St. Louis Rams. Smith went through the obstacle course in 25.5 seconds.

The competition was preceded by a NFL alumni flag-football game involving teams captained by former Broncos quarterback John Elway and ex-49ers and Buccaneers passer Steve Young. Elway's team lost 41-25; Young's team included Ring of Famer Karl Mecklenburg, who scored a touchdown and sacked Elway. The only blight on the former linebacker's day was the fact that his name on his jersey was misspelled "Mecklenberg."
