I haven't seen it yet, but this is sad yet amusing. When your kid hits 500 you might want to get him to a doctor. I hate Dr. Phil.

At nearly 1,000 pounds, he is too big to bathe himself, dress himself, or use the bathroom without assistance. His mother, Loretta, is terrified he will die if drastic measures aren’t taken. Has she been enabling his eating habits? Share your thoughts.

I never watch Dr. Phil but I stumbled onto it and it's sad to say the least...this kid doesn't need jokes, he needs help. I don't know if Dr. Phil, a psudo-shrink on TV is the right guy, but the kid needs help to get his self esteem established.

His friends and his mother enable him. They bring him tons of food. He is actually addicted to that food to the point where it "HURTS" if he doesn't have what his body craves! It is a VERY sad situation. His mother used to bribe him with food so that she didn't have to be seen out in public with him! She should be arrested for child abuse in my book. Overfeeding your kid to the point of putting their life in danger is just the same as starving them!

As far as the extra skin is concerned...if he does lose the weight he could have surgery to "tuck" the skin.

I watch to much discover and TLC I guess, but I saw this fatty lose a ton of weight, and the surgery to take off the extra skin nearly killed her. I just hope he loses the weight so he can regain some of his life. They can't even do a surgery on him (I am pretty sure) to make his stomach smaller, because he has so much fat to go through. I saw some kid on MTV that wanted to do it, but she was to fat also.

First, maybe you were blessed with a home where you were trained in a "normal" way of life. You have no clue what it would be like to be raised in an environment where you were not taught to have that self control that you so graciously have.

Remember, the entire world doesn't think like you...at least someone is willing to step in and help. Obviously he knows he needs it, or he wouldn't have agreed to it. I'm sure he's well aware of disgrace he will face from those that refuse to at least TRY and understand!

Hotrod...I can understand all of that....but, realize that this story goes deeper than this kid just eating too much. His own mom admits to bribing him with LOTS of food so she could go do what she wanted and didn't have to take him with her. That shows me that this kid is dealing with more than just an appetite. This tells me that there is something much more involved here. I'm not, by any means, making excuses for it, but what I am doing is trying to understand what the issue really is!

Although Dr Phil is doing the story today, there was a precursor to the story on some show I watched last night that had more information on it. Yep...at first I couldn't understand how someone could let themselves get that way...(Probably because I'm so obsessive/compulsive) about my own weight...but, after hearing just a little bit about growing up...I chose to try and understand a bit more.

I totally disagree with that comment and it is not a matter of being insensitive b/c that is not the issue. The fact is someone ALLOWED this man to get that way. You can point fingers at his mother, father, lack thereof or whomever, but the fact is the child, now a 34 year old i believe is to blame. To ALLOW yourself to get that way is a shame and reflection of how you treat yourself. For goodness sakes it is YOUR body, try and keep it in some kind of decent shape. Its the only one you have.

Obviously we can go further into this, as this is an easily debatable topic, but c'mon, he allowed himself to get that way. We praise and admire bodies like Arnold, Jess Alba and fit celebrities, at least the ones who WORKEd for their bodies, and yet when someone's body goes in the opposite direction we are cynical if we do not feel bad for them?
That is dissheartening.
