Default Cheatriots' Trick Formation Now Ruled Illegal

All apologies if this has already been posted...

Talk about your convenient timing!

Quote:
PHOENIX -- A much-deconstructed formation led to a New England Patriots touchdown drive in the playoffs. Next season, it will lead to a 5-yard penalty.

The NFL passed a rule Wednesday that makes it illegal for an offensive player wearing an eligible number -- between 1 and 49, or 80 to 89 -- to report as ineligible and line up outside the tackle box. Now, if a player is declared ineligible yet lines up outside the tackle box, the offense will be penalized for illegal substitution.

The rule, proposed by the NFL's competition committee, resulted from a successful series of plays by the Patriots during a 35-31 playoff victory over Baltimore in January.

Mike, do you think there is any chance that the league would have outlawed the ineligible/eligible plays if Peyton Manning, Sean Payton, Chip Kelly, Andy Reid, or some other offensive 'genius' had used it. That person would be celebrated as innovative, but because the league is jealous of the pats success, they try to penalize them at every turn. That is why I feel there is no way that the league does not come down very hard on the pats for deflategate, no matter what the actual facts are.

No, I don't, Bill. I very much felt an anti-Patriots slant to these meetings, more from several of the teams themselves. Everyone's pretty much jealous, it's a highly competitive environment, and you see that sort of manifest itself in these settings when everyone is together. It's a dynamic like no other -- technically these 32 teams are partners, but the way they act around each other at times is middle-school level stuff.

it was a vast conspiracy vs the pats when the league made low hits on QBs illegal after Brady's injury but not Carson Palmer's

maybe pats fans and beat writers are so used to the league bending over backward to acquiesce to the pats that when something like this happens they think it's the league out to get them.

waiting for Atlanta and Cleveland fans to post a blog from a Cleveland/Atlanta fan about how the owners are out to get them for pumping noise into the stadium and texting coaches during the game

I heard the league shot down the Patriots proposed rule change where they get first right of refusal for being in the SB. CONSPIRACY!

Wait, are you saying you're in favor of defenders folding in quarterbacks knees?

I will say this......if the Broncos had done this, we would have cheered the intelligence of the coaching staff in finding this 'loophole' in the rules.

As would any fan of any other team.

And I dont think it was so much what the Patsies did, but more what the refs didnt do.

Baltimore would have won that game imo.

Wow, the Patriots really pissed in your Wheaties. You really hate them, so much so that you seem to HATE fans of the team.

Speak for yourself.

If most Broncos fans were OK with cheating, then those same fans wouldn't have cheered when McD was run out of town on a rail.

Cheating? You really just use that word for anything related to the Patriots. Declaring a lineman an eligible receiver and a running back an ineligible receiver, reporting this to the referees, then having the referees inform the Ravens defense, AND blast it over the stadium PA, is now cheating?

Keeping in mind it was legal, that's hilarious.

Pats fans are the absolute worst. I live north of Boston, and they are 95% insufferable tools.
