The New York Post reports New York Jets are reportedly working on an agreement that would free offensive coordinator Mike Heimerdinger from the final two years of his contract. Head coach Eric Mangini clearly is setting things up for Heimerdinger's departure. "Something should be done pretty soon," regarding an agreement to part ways with Heimerdinger, one source familiar with the situation told The Post. One obstacle the Jets are trying to avoid is having to swallow any of Heimerdinger's contract.

There was discussion on whether Herm left his assts hanging when he bailed on the Jests, and I agreed he did. but, I've thought on it, and I think I was wrong. Generally, a new HC wants his own assts. Sometimes, assts are kept on, but only when for some reason they want to stay. Sometimes, like with the chorfs, it appears the new HC wants to keep a guy, and the asst coach wants to work, and sometimes management pretty much tells a new HC he has to work with some asst that management wants to keep. But, I can't recall a new HC being saddled with a disgruntled Asst Coach.
I guess there's still a question if any of Herms jests assts were left w/o jobs, though. |

Looks like things are being set up for Heimer to be the OC in Denver next year. I think that would work out OK for Denver.

I'm pretty sure he was the OC in Tennessee for most of their recent string of good years. When taking the Jets job it was hyped that he was going to greatly improve the offense in terms of downfield passing and big passing plays. Most of that didn't pan out since their offense fell apart from a player personel standpoint. He did really well with McNair, I think he'd help our offense take another step up. I do not want this idiot in Denver. If you are into a guy that sits on the ball with 3 pt leads, Heimer is your guy. He also is the king of calling 5 yd pass plays on 3rd & 10. |

Heimerdinger joined the Titans after five seasons coaching the WR for the two-time world champion Denver Broncos ... under his tutelage, the Denver tandem of Ed McCaffrey and Rod Smith became one of the top wide receiving duos in the NFL ... Heimerdinger came to DEN in 1995 from Duke University where he was the offensive coordinator and RB coach in 1994 ... before Duke, Heimerdinger spent five years (1989-93) as offensive coordinator at Rice University ... during his tenure, the Owls produced the school's first back-to-back winning seasons since 1960-61 ... in 1988, Heimerdinger also served as offensive coordinator at Cal-State Fullerton, where his club set the school's single-game record for most points scored with 58 . Heimerdinger began his coaching career in 1975 in the high school ranks of Illinois and earned a head coaching job at Johnsburgh High School in McHenry, Ill ... two-years later, he served as a graduate assistant coach at the University of Florida in 1980 ... he spent 1981 at Air Force and at North Texas State in 1982 before returning to Florida in 1983 ... he spent five years at Florida before moving on to Cal-State Fullerton ... a native of Dekalb, Ill. (10/13/52), Heimerdinger played WR (1970-71) and centerfield at Eastern Illinois, where he earned his degree in history in 1975 ... he also participated in the NCAA Division II College World Series in 1974 ... he later earned his Master.s in Administration from Northern Illinois ... Mike and his wife Kathie are parents of daughter, Alicia, and son, Brian.
http://www.newyorkjets.com/coaches/i...aches_id=20#20 There's that Fla connection, and shanny's kid went to Duke, I think. |

Good description. It appears he's been associated with winners overall. I don't believe you can get too much out of last season with the J-E-T-S. Too many injuries to key players to be able to no kidding rate his performance as far as I can tell. Sit on leads? If thats true, thats not good. Don't remember Denver sitting on any leads during the superbowl era. I'm guessing shanny would trump any tendancy he had to do that in Denver...dman

I think our offense has been the same the last 4 years or so. Some new blood and new ideas will refresh this team IMO.

Does it really matter? He's a title. Shanny calls the plays, designs the plays, chooses what plays are going in the game plan and everything else.

Mike Heimerdinger was highly thought of when he was on Denver's staff during the Super Bowl years.
He did a good job as Titans OC and while w/ the Jets, I wouldn't blame him for their shortcomings this year, because they had so many injuries. This is the guy I want to become Denver's next OC. Didnt Shanny recently say that Kubiak was the one who called the plays? Kubiak was the one w/ had the close relationships w/ Plummer, Mike Anderson, Rod Smith and etc. |

That would be fine with me if he comes here. Getting some fresh ideas here for our O would be nice.

Shanny's kid - Kyle - went to Texas with Chris Simms, but he transferred from another school maybe it was Duke. I can't remember.
