Default corey chavous or archulets

i think either would be a solid upgrade and quicker than drafting a stud safety

what do you guys think?

I'd take Huff over either of them... but I doubt Huff falls to 22. So with that in mind, I'd say Corey Chavous. Archuleta doesn't have the same ball skills IMO. Chavous is a border line Pro-bowl safety with ball hawking skills.

Chavous is on par with Fergy....Achuleta is a concussion away from Meril Hodge....I would rather have Bing.

if he is, it's not by much. Safety is a postion that you can start a rookie and have them thrive.

Since we're talking about'em... here's the top 3 or 4:

Michael Huff
Height: 6-1 | Weight: 205 | 40-Time: 4.45

Official Bio

Strengths:
Very athletic with excellent speed...A playmaker and ballhawk in the secondary who has a nose for the ball...Has a knack for taking interceptions to the house...Versatile and has experience at both safety and cornerback...Moves well and shows terrific range...Good tackler...Smart player with tremendous instincts...Comes from a program with a strong history of developing pro DB's.

Weaknesses:
May be a bit of a 'tweener who doesn't fit in at either safety or corner at the pro level...Will gamble at times in an effort to come away with a turnover...Needs to work on and refine his technique...Needs to get stronger...Was shuffled around throughout his career and was never able to concentrate on just one position.

Notes:
Thorpe Award winner...Brother (Marcus King) is a safety at Missouri...When it comes to making a big play in the secondary you won't find many who have done it as well as this guy at the college level the past few years...His pro position is still up in the air but with his physical tools it certainly gives teams a lot of options.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Safety | Sophomore | South Carolina Ko Simpson
Height: 6-1 | Weight: 201 | 40-Time: 4.51

Official Bio

Strengths:
Has good size and a solid frame...Very productive and a standout throughout his two year career...Always around the action and has a nose for the ball...Is equally effective as a ballhawk in coverage and in supporting the run...Physical and a good tackler...Good ball skills...Has great instincts...Still improving and has upside.

Weaknesses:
Might not have elite timed speed and needs to run well in workouts to solidify a high grade...Older than the average prospect with his experience and will be a 23-year-old rookie in '06...Might not be quite the pro prospect his college press clippings would lead you to believe...Has only played two years of college football.

Notes:
Burst onto the scene as a true freshman while earning many national honors...A true sophomore who is able to enter the draft this year because he sat out 2003 before enrolling in college, thus making it three years since he graduated from high school...Prospect with a well-rounded game as well as a lot of potential.

Bing is the 3rd rated safety, no write-up yet though.

Don't forget this guy. Last year when he considered coming out, he was widely considered a high 2nd round pick.

Jason Allen
Height: 6-2 | Weight: 202 | 40-Time: 4.50

Official Bio

Strengths:
Has excellent size and long arms...Is a smooth athlete with fluid hips and quick feet...A playmaker in the secondary with good hands and a nose for the ball...Is equally effective against the run and in pass coverage...Versatile and has experience at multiple positions in the secondary...Smart player who is a team captain and leader on the field...Still has some upside.

Weaknesses:
Might be a 'tweener without a true position...Will need to pick a position and focus on mastering the nuances of it rather than bouncing around...Is not a great tackler...Could be more physical...Average speed for the outside might be exposed at the next level...Dislocated his hip in October and also has a history of shoulder problems so health and durability will be a question mark.

Notes:
Could project to either safety or corner at the pro level...Almost entered the draft a year ago but changed his mind at the last minute and decided to return to the Vols and play cornerback in hopes of increasing his draft stock...Can be tried out at corner and in a worst-case scenario he could be moved to free safety.

I would prefer Greg Blue

Greg Blue
Height: 6-2 | Weight: 214 | 40-Time: 4.42

Official Bio

Strengths:
Good athlete...Has excellent size and a solid frame...Is very fast with good recovery speed and a burst...Lives for the big hit and will lay people out...Has excellent range in coverage...Hips are fluid...Has quick feet...Outstanding in run support...Versatile and could project to either free or strong safety...Is very strong and physical...An intimidator...Still improving and has some upside and potential.

Weaknesses:
Only intercepted two passes throughout his career with both coming as a senior...Focuses too much on making the big hit and fails to wrap up...Is too aggressive at times...Will take bad angles to the ball...Is not as good in coverage as he should be considering his measurables...Might be a bit of a workout warrior.

Notes:
In terms of computer numbers he has everything you look for...A bit of an oddity in that he has the physical tools of a centerfielder / coverage guy but plays more like an in-the-box safety...Continues the tradition of Sean Jones & Thomas Davis.
