InsideHoops.com Source: Paul Pierce is Gone
By InsideHoops.com | Sept. 7, 2005 A source informed InsideHoops.com editor Jeff Lenchiner Wednesday evening that the Boston Celtics are expected to trade all-star guard/forward Paul Pierce to the Denver Nuggets for guard Andre Miller and forward/center Nene. It's not known if other players are involved in the completion of the deal. |

The N4 jersey curse continues. Any time I get a player's jersey, BAM, he's gone. Now I've gotta find a way to get Miller taken off of the back of my jerseys and my last name put on. Dammit.
That said, and everyone here knows how big of a Miller fan I am, we HAVE to do this deal. I'm surprised to see negative comments. Let's face it, Nene will NEVER live up to his potential here. He's not happy. He gets less rebounds per game than some guards in the league. It's time to move him, we have the depth up front. I would much rather deal Boykins, but this is the type of move that could catapult the team to the top. Pierce is going to be like Vince Carter was last year in NJ -- you're going to see him EXPLODE when he moves on to prove himself. Remember, he almost single handedly carried Boston to the conference finals a few years ago. I will admit this makes me worried about the PG situation though. My thoughts on Boykins are pretty well known and I just haven't watched enough of Watson to feel completely comfortable with him starting at the PG position (and he would undoubtedly start over Boykins). That said, Kiki has to make this move if it's offered. Anyone know a place that alters NBA jerseys? |

Our backcourt situation especially PG is scary if we go through with this. Boykins as our starting PG...nightmares all season.

Boykins won't be our starter. Remember, Watson started for Memphis a good chunk of last season. I know he was finishing games for them as well as Williams was too unpredictable.
The more I think about this deal, the more excited I get. One thing people forget is that Hodge can play the point for us as well. I wouldn't be surprised to see him and Earl on the court at the same time with Hodge running the point and Earl doing the gunning. Two recent quotes from The Sports Guys articles: Quote:

I love Watson...he's a dirty work guy and is pretty versatile. He wont penetrate much off of the dribble, but he wont have to if Pierce is there. Pierce an do plenty of that.
I dont know if I like Pierce playing with Melo though. They are both a little lazy. Maybe Martin will stay in his ear. |

I hate this forum. I like having everything in 1 big forum. But I digress.
I'd cream my pants if we got Pierce. I mean, Andre is a quality guy you hate to lose, but we gotta do it. As for Nene, I wanted them to pull the trigger on that at the trade deadline last season, so he can go. |

Thanks for the enlightement. I was under the assumption that PP was not a locker room guy and that he would be somewhat of a problem there. As a hoopster, he would be the SG the Nuggs need. Now let's wait and see if this actually happens. How do the salaries line up? The nuggs must like the kid from Mizzou. |

I'll believe this if it actually happens. These Paul Pierce rumors have been floating around all offseason.
I have two major concerns about Pierce. Number one is how would he get along with George Karl. It's no secret that they didn't exactly part on good terms when Karl coached him in the World Championships and we've already seen some backlash from that when Michael Finley didn't even make the Nuggets one of his considerations. The second is even if he gets along with Karl, will he play the up tempo style of game that made the Nuggets so successful in the 2nd half of last season? I've heard talk about how Pierce clashed a bit with Doc Rivers over the fact that Pierce wasn't running. If he doesn't want to run, he simply won't fit in here. Other than that I don't have any real problem with it other than seeing who the other players involved would be. Pierce is an All-Star caliber two guard who would give the Nuggets a sorely needed reliable 2nd scoring option. Trading Miller would be softened by the addition of Earl Watson. Watson isn't as good a passer and playmaker as Miller, but he's about even with him as far as scoring and superior defensively. They'd better get a big man back in the deal unless they want to rely on Najera and rookie Linus Kleiza for big minutes if/when Camby gets hurt again. We'll see. |

Well, I am Boston Fan, and for people like Nuggs4 to say that Pierce is going to "blow up" this season couldn't be farther from the truth. First of all, Pierce averaged 22 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists last season while shooting 45% from the field. How exactly will Pierce blow up? His career high for scoring is 25 points per game.
Second of all, why should Boston trade Pierce? He has led the league in 4th quarter scoring, he has led all two guards/small forwards in the free throw attempts the past couple of years, he is only 27 years old and is a proven commodity in this league. I think the trade rumor is bunk myself, but even if the trade did go down, you guys would be raping us. Nene can't rebound for sh*t. Andre is good point guard, but hardly worthy of being part of a two for one involving Pierce. |

The trade is interesting, but I am not sure if it really is one sided as some may think. |

But late Thursday morning a high-ranking member of the Celtics organization personally informed InsideHoops.com that the rumor is incorrect.

Who needs five guards on the floor when you have Al Jefferson, Raef Laferentz and Kendrick Perkins to man the middle. Plus, don't discount the STEAL of the draft, Ryan Gomes. He is 6'7" and has a wingspan of a 7'2" player. He averaged a double double in college and is able to play the two, three, and four spots. Celtic domination is on the way... |

The C's do have some guards and forwards who will be solid players. Green looked like a future all-star in the summer league. The OSU kid is a solid player. They have a future for sure. |
