Its gone on all year. Yes officials are not perfect...they do not profess to be perfect. They are there to protect the integrity of the game and inforce the rules as they view them. Yes everyone in the world knows that Triplett blew the call in Indy...but lets look at Tripletts track record...he was the genious the botched the coin flip on thanksgiving day between the steelers and lions. He hit an offensive lineman in the eye with his flag. He botched the ruling on the muffed punt catch opportunity in San Diego this year. Everyone one of those games had the Steelers in it(I believe the game was Browns Steelers). He is my exception to the rule. When I sit in the stands I ask one thing of the officials...Consistency. If they call things consistently I do not care who gets flagged. But when it becomes tipped one sided on certain calls that bothers me. The officials in this past weekends game did their jobs. You can stand and critisize all you want but until you put on the stripes and work a game you will never understand. I have officiated college football and I used to play it as well. The game is much quicker than you realize and these guys are all a lot older than I am and getting up and down the field ain't near as easy. I'm not sayin give them a free pass. But look at things from their shoes. If you are going to come out and question an iffy call...at least have the balls to try to officiate...thats all i'm asking.
Ok I'll get off my soap box now. |
