Default Post underclassmen declaring for draft here

This will help us see who is coming out.
Today's news so far:
Florida wide receiver Chad Jackson will enter the NFL draft, a source close to Jackson told ESPN's Joe Schad on Wednesday.

Jackson had 88 catches for 900 yards and nine touchdowns as a junior this season. He also ran for two touchdowns.

He caught seven passes for 76 yards against Iowa as the Gators won the Outback Bowl.

ESPN analyst Mel Kiper ranks Jackson fourth among junior wide receivers.

Apparently Vince Young won't be entering the draft.

I've been saying that for well over a year... UT does as well as anyone in the country in terms of keeping their Junior players for their Senior year.

maybe we can trade one of our #1s this year to, I dunno, New Orleans or San Fran for their #1 next year. I like jake, but in 2 years, Vince would look good in our uni.

Before I get flamed, I am kidding. I would take Vince, but I am kidding.

Hey, don't feel bad for that suggestion. If you have a guy like Eric Winston available around #21 I wouldn't put it past the Houston Texans to trade a first in next years draft for him, especially if they take Bush #1 overall. The reason this is possible is b/c there are four OT's in this draft that carry very high grades (to date)...possibly even five if Johnny Scott does well in the bowl game and works out well for scouts. Ferguson, Winston, Justice, McNeil, and perhaps Scott. Any one of those 5 would have been top 10 picks in last years draft. Of course with Brown and Barron being the only first round talent that's not saying a whole lot, but the Texans need help and could be slightly desperate.

I found this little tid bit, even though it's not exactly an early entrant, I know he's a local favorite... btw, that 100m time can't be right...... can it?

JEREMY BLOOM (Ex-Colorado)… first things first, he will compete in the upcoming 2006 Winter Olympics… but as soon as he is done conquering the slopes, he intends to blaze a path towards the NFL… his intention is to submit his official paper work before leaving for the Olympics, and then pickup his "Cross" training when he returns in late February… "(I) have done everything, and achieved everything when it comes to skiing, but there is still one more level of football that (I) want to conquer… to reach that level, and play on Sunday's… that's my new goal, the next step in my life", said Bloom when asked about the NFL earlier this year… while only 5090, 165 pounds, he has exhibited eye-opening speed on the field, having scored five touchdowns that covered 75-or-more yards in his brief time with the Buffaloes… most believe that he can run in the 4.3 range, since he ran 9.40 in the 100-meters a few years back… pound-for-pound he's very strong for his size, and more importantly he's crazy fast, in the sense that he can reach full speed in just one or two steps… has natural vision on the field, as well as a feel for the return game… his private workouts in the spring will be well attended, so although he has limited game film there will be a chance his name could be called in the later rounds of April's Draft… has gotten advice about his NFL aspirations from people like John Elway, Ben Roethlisberger and Hines Ward…

I can't speak to the accuracy of that time, but I can say that Bloom is the very definition of a burner. That's why I've been advocating that the Broncos grab him on day 2 as a kickoff and punt return specialist. He'll never be much as a receiver, but he's got Dainty Hall potential on special teams.

I don't know if he's declared or not, but some people have asked about him so I thought I'd post this...

KO SIMPSON (South Carolina)… leads his team with 94 tackles, including 65 solos to go along with nine pass breakups, one interception and one fumble recovery, which he returned for a touchdown… pure free safety that seems to have a nose for the football… just about 6010, 195-201 pounds… has been timed in the low-to-mid 4.5 range in the 40... good enough hips to be used on occasion in man coverage, while also being a very solid open-field tackler… sources say that he would like to know his current draft grade before making a final decision, but that he seems to be leaning towards entering the pros now rather than waiting another year for two main reasons… one, the injury to Jason Allen (Tennessee) could be playing the biggest role in this, as he does not want to face a similar type of situation a year from now… secondly, he is already 24 years-old, and would turn 25 before the 2007 NFL Draft, which might cause him to slip some in the eyes of scouts/teams… the most likely scenario would be that he receives at least a third round grade, as of today…

Couple more b/c I know you're interested.

MASON CROSBY (Colorado)… it is rare that you find a specialist that could entertain the idea of leaving school early, but with his combination of leg strength, accuracy and ability to convert kicks in the clutch would likely earn him the shot to be taken on the first day of the draft, considering the lack of a consensus top-rated senior kicker… has nailed 11 field goals of 50-plus yards in just the past two years, while 75% of his kickoffs have gone for touchbacks this season… recently had the distance to convert a 60-plus yard field goal against Nebraska… would most likely earn a third round grade, but could go even higher on draft day, since there would be a core group of 6-to-8 teams that would be salivating for a kicker of his prominence…

DEVIN HESTER (Miami, FL)… his speed and return skills are unquestioned, but he is yet to prove himself as a position player on either side of the ball… could be a combination wide receiver/running back or given the chance to develop as a cornerback… might prove to just be a speedy jack-of-all-trades… roughly 5100, 175-180 pounds… has been timed between 4.29-4.35 in the 40... whispers about him opting to come out have been circulating since the start of the year, but he could rise come draft day, especially for anyone desperate for help on special teams… the coaching staff has promised him a great role on the offensive side of the ball if he returns, but several associates continue to be in his ear about having to play cornerback in order to improve his NFL grade… has spoke to several former U-M players, as well as a few standout NFL players, including Deion Sanders, who have offered him advice about his short-term and long-term career… should he decide to enter the NFL his plans are to workout primarily at defensive back and working to run the fastest 40-times possible at the Combine… there are some scouts that say he could position himself as high as the second round with a big effort at the Combine…

There aren't many good senior receivers in this year's draft so the news about Jackson definately strengthens a relatively weak position in the draft.

CHAD JACKSON (Florida)… smooth-looking route runner with good size, but has not always shown the blazing speed (4.39-4.42) he possesses on the field… has 82 catches and nine touchdowns this season, but is averaging just 10 yards per catch… may look to test the waters, but it could cost him $100,000's of dollars, as he has first-round talent, but probably would go between rounds 2-3 this year, as of today, but he could jump up the charts with an impressive post-season performance, especially if he were to run 4.4 range or better at the Combine… head coach Urban Meyer's offensive system should take flight, pun intended, next season, where Jackson would join fellow senior, quarterback, Chris Leak in what could become a lethal combination… there are other evaluators that feel his size/speed combination could allow him to rise up the draft boards in similar fashion to last year's Top-10 pick Troy Williamson (Minnesota)… meanwhile, one of his fellow teammates and wide receivers, ANDRE CALDWELL, intends to comeback for his final year with the Gators…

I agree with SS's 1st rounders.... though I'll add Cromartie and put Chad Jackson on the verge of being a 2nd rounder.

Agree. Both Jackson and Cromartie are late first/early seconds at this point. Although Cromartie has the most questions due to the injury.

MIAMI GARDENS — Florida State linebacker Ernie Sims will skip his final season and enter the draft, barring an unfavorable report from the NFL's Advisory Council, according to a source close to the program.

Sims, a 6-foot, 220-pound linebacker, joins cornerback Antonio Cromartie, who announced Wednesday he will enter the draft despite missing the 2005 season with a knee injury.
Sims finished with 72 tackles and 10 tackles for loss.

The Seminoles will await the decision of junior tailback Lorenzo Booker, the final underclassman who has considered leaving. Booker had 2 yards on seven carries in Tuesday's 26-23 triple-overtime loss to Penn State in the Orange Bowl. But he scored on a 57-yard swing pass from Drew Weatherford. Booker finished with 552 rushing yards.

A running start: Coach Bobby Bowden has a directive for his son and offensive coordinator Jeff Bowden.

"I told the Jeffrey the biggest thing we have to do is get the running game going again,'' Bobby Bowden said.

The Seminoles were 107th in the nation in rushing offense before the bowls, averaging 99.7 yards per game.

Bright future: FSU played 27 freshmen during the 2005 season and its starting lineup Tuesday had eight freshmen or sophomores.

"We definitely have the talent, but football doesn't necessarily come down to talent,'' Weatherford said. "It comes down to a lot of intangibles. It depends on what kind of leadership we're going to have and what kind of chemistry we develop in the off-season.''

Bowden hits the road: Florida State coaches return to the recruiting trail today with Bowden ready to visit the high-profile recruits.

"It's not hard for me to sell Florida State University,'' Bowden said. "You played in the ACC Championship game. You were champions for 12 of 14 years. We can sell that.''

Bowden believes the team's victory against Virginia Tech in the inaugural ACC title game was among the biggest in school history.

"There was no doubt in my mind after the ACC game, I don't know if we ever won a more important game than that other than the national championship games,'' he said.

The Seminoles have 17 oral commitments, including three players from Hargrave Academy who have not qualified.

All-WAC CB Richard Marshall of Fresno State also announced his intentions today.

Good news! Paul Posluszny will not need knee surgery after partially tearing his MCL and PCL in the Orange Bowl. Posluszny is still considering going pro since his rehab will only take 6-8 weeks.

I totally agree. Since he ran Urban Meyer's offense, he is going to need some time to learn a pro style offense. Jacobs also has quite an arm. The scouts rated his gun a 4 on a 5 scale. However, his sidearm delivery will get some flak like Vince Young.
