Default Hester declares for the draft

Declared this morning. Not a surprise. He has realized for some time now that he wont get developed properly by this staff and will take his chances in the pros despite likely being only a 3rd rounder.

Good luck, Devin. Cant say I blame you.

I read it on multiple Miami board's this morning, it should be on main sports network sites fairly soon, they got it via WQAM a local radio station down there that covers the Canes. Hester has wanted to come out a long time but was upset when scouts told him he should come out under no circumstances since he hasnt found a position niche yet. Coker promised him if he came back, he'd get 20 touches a game on offense. After last night, I guess he wants no part of this staff and doesnt feel confident at all he will develop any more next year than he has the last few years. I dont blame him. I hope he succeeds in the pros.

Call me crazy... I hope Denver takes him in the 2nd! We're in a position to build for the future. In Hester you're getting one of College's best athletes and a guy that can be coached up. We're taking a chance at greatness in the 2nd round. I think late 2nd is a good slot for him!

Huff in the first and Hester in the second. We would have two of the best defensive playmakers in football.

Devin's a playmaker but he is way too raw. We dont need anymore corners anyway. He couldnt crack the starting lineup at the U this year, so I doubt he could make an impact with us in his first year at corner. I think he needs to be a full time WR, thats the best use of his playmaking ability. He already failed in that role once because he had problems grasping the offensive system. A pro offense, especially one like ours is likely much more complicated than Miami's offensive system. Its going to be a long term project type of thing with Hester. You will see flashes of big time ability, but we'd have to be in it for the long haul for consistently awesome results. His first year he would do nothing but be the KR-PR. Im not sure how I feel about Hester in the 2nd round. Its a little bit high, not for his talent ofcourse, so far as pure talent, he is a Top 10 guy, but he has a long ways to go as a football player and it would be a question of whether we are willing to wait 2 or 3 years before getting results outside of special teams. I wouldnt be surprised if Al Davis reaches for him in the early 2nd because he is always enthralled with terrific athletes with speed.

We need a KR/PR guy. D-will is a full time corner and does not need to risk injury on special teams. you are 100% correct, he is a very raw player but he is being tutored by deion sanders which will help some. I think he could do well as a nickel back. We could also bring him in on offense for a few plays a game. I can see taking a gamble on a player like this alot easier than with clarett. Hester is a pure athlete.

I agree he has to be a WR/Returner in the NFL. Never quite made it at the DB position. Appears to have a bit of a fragile temperment. Probably a boom or bust type of guy that will require plenty of personal attention.

That's okay... as long as you go in expecting him to be a developmental player. We're in a position to plan for the future. There are holes on the team now, but nothing earth shattering. DE/DT, S, and Hester in 1st and 2nd would be great!

Personnel I think it dumb idea for him, especial with the lack of "real" position, do you play him at CB or WR. A faster version of Deltha right now.
