Don't know if this has been posted:
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2271478 Broncos' Wilson to have surgery, return for playoffs By Len Pasquarelli ESPN.com Middle linebacker Al Wilson will have Monday surgery to repair a broken right thumb and will miss the Denver Broncos' season finale at San Diego on Sunday but is expected to return for his team's opening playoff game. Selected to his fourth straight Pro Bowl berth last week, Wilson suffered the thumb injury in the third quarter of Saturday's victory over the Oakland Raiders. He continued to play with the broken thumb but X-rays on Sunday indicated surgery was required. At least two surgical pins will be inserted into the thumb to promote stability during healing and will eventually be removed after the Broncos' season is completed. Wilson, the team's first-round choice in the 1999 draft, had already been playing for eight weeks with a dislocated index finger on his right hand. He suffered that injury in an Oct. 30 game against the Philadelphia Eagles. Because the Broncos have earned the No. 2 spot in the AFC playoff bracket, and thus a first-round bye, Denver won't begin the postseason until the weekend of Jan. 14-15. The extra week could be key to Wilson, who will probably don a splint or some other protective device when he returns to the field. It is not yet known who will replace Wilson in the lineup for the regular-season finale, a fairly meaningless game now that the Broncos are locked in to their No. 2 seed and San Diego has been eliminated from playoff contention. Patrick Chukwurah and special teams star Keith Burns are among the candidates and each has played some middle linebacker in the past. In 15 games, Wilson, 28, has 90 tackles, three sacks, nine passes defensed, two forced fumbles and a recovery. The thumb injury will keep Wilson from amassing more than 100 tackles, a total he has reached in each of the last five seasons. Len Pasquarelli is a senior NFL writer for ESPN.com. The title of this thread should include (but will be back for first playoff game). I'm pretty sure a few people will have a heart attack if that isn't included. It's was a very long few seconds for this thread to open when I first read the title.

Al will be good to go for the playoffs.
Nice try RU ![]() Yet another reason why clinching the bye is so beneficial. |

Keeping Al out of the first playoff game would be like telling the Shark he can't troll for clients that are allready signed...aint gonna happen.
He doesn't even care if it's broken again...he probably wouldn't even tell anyone at this point. Tape it up and go if he breaks the splint...he's got all offseason to put that thumb back together. Don't worry about it. I'm actually worried about Andersons ankle more...does anyone know if it's a moderate or high ankle sprain? |

This is not good news. A broken thumb is generally a much more difficult injury to play through than a broken finger. I remember Mecklenburg losing several games one year to a broken thumb. Its going to hamper Al, at least somewhat, in several ways. Shedding blocks, tackling, certainly catching the football.

I couldn't believe the cheap shots Oakland was taking on Saturday...I saw 7 cheap shots, and they wouldn't call them...I still can't believe they let all of them go...4-5..ok..all of them? WTF is that? I can't remember all of them...Champs rib was a cheap shot...Andersons ankle was a cheap shot...Lelie I have no clue...maybe they stepped on his arm...his arm didn't get cut hanging out for nothing...he probably had bite marks...I saw so many attempts at injury I was astounded. I have officially changed my most hated team back from thr RatBirds to the Faidrers..That was absurd. I don't know if you guys saw the intentional attempts to injure, but trust me, they were there. I lost all respect for Norv Turner. |

Perhaps, but when he swats away an incoming pass you can bet the receiver will duck...or at least, (as light & rock hard as the new casts are)...he'd better ***bong*** |

Lemme know, please.I'm actually very skeptical, because I remember hearing the exact same talk about Elam 2 or 3 years ago. Normally I'd chalk it up to the team posturing for contract negotiatiosn . . . but I don't think all the papers would fall for that. And whadd'ya know about Lepsis? Brown? Warren? |

I forgot that...they were trying to take Jakes knees from the side and he jumped...
Another play they banged his head into the turf... I don't get it...you can't breath on a QB if he falls down like a kicker but you let them try to take out our QB's knees and then bang his head to the ground? WTF? Did anyone see them pound his helmet into the turf? I don't know what drugs those refs were on, but about medway thru the 3rd, they went from football players to full blown punks...I couldn't believe it wasn't being called. Thank God Jake jumped up or we would be watching BVP for the rest of the year..who was that prick that tried to break his knees? That pissed me off...it was so obvious...the guy went low on purpose.... BASTARDS How come Jake is allowed to be bounced around like a rag doll and other QB's get a breath of bad breath and they get a flag? Last edited by watermock; 12-26-2005 at 02:09 PM.. |
