Turf toe could sideline Oakland's 1,000-yard back vs. Broncs
Dec. 20, 2005 CBS SportsLine.com wire reports ALAMEDA, Calif. -- Oakland Raiders running back LaMont Jordan is listed as doubtful to play in Saturday's game at Denver because of turf toe. Jordan, in his first season with Oakland, injured the big toe on his right foot on a pass play in Oakland's third snap of last Sunday's 9-7 home loss to the Cleveland Browns. He continued to play, then re-aggravated the injury on a long run in the third quarter. An MRI exam revealed a jam in the toe and Jordan is unlikely to use an orthotic or steel plate in his shoe to help him deal with the pain. He didn't practice Tuesday for the Raiders (4-10), who have lost four straight games and six of seven. "It's very, very tender and sore right now," coach Norv Turner said. "We'll see where he's at the end of the week. It's a short week. I think we'll know Thursday. He's just not much better than he was." Jordan is the Raiders' leading rusher with 1,025 yards on 272 carries for nine touchdowns. He also lead's the team in catches with 70 for 563 yards and two more TDs. With Jordan probably sidelined, fullback Zack Crockett will move into the tailback spot this week. "It will be tough to lose a guy of his caliber," Crockett said. "You know I'm always ready to pick up the pace. I'm always amped up for an opportunity." Third-year pro Justin Fargas also is expected to get more playing time after being limited mostly to special teams this season. Fargas has just two carries for 4 yards this season, but Turner doesn't expect him to be rusty carrying the ball come Saturday. "I think Justin will be excited to play and he's a flashy guy and he can make some runs," Turner said |

I just saw that on NFL Total Access. Oh well, Denver can not spare to look at this game as an easy game.

this suddenly makes their offense less one-dimensional and could pose problems for us.
lamont jordan injured does not bode well for denver. |

No Jordan leaves them desperate, and only able to pass. With their only option being the pass it's becoming eerily reminiscent of last year's game. Pass D isn't exactly our forte right now. I'm hoping their o-line issues will be our best allie and we get some good pressure.

Well Oaklands pass offense is nothing compared to what it was last year, and they didn't even have Moss then. Collins sucks, Tuiosoposo sucks. Denver will go into this game and kill them. Denver gets win #12 and the AFC West. Step one will be complete after this Saturday.

They don't use Jordan right anyway, so it doesn't matter. I'm tired of these teams that don't use the weapons they have. I think guys like Jordan or Brian Westbrook would be a great fit here, but unfortunately he gets to pass block for penuts over in philly.

1) watch some raiders games 2) note just how many times this guy gets less than 2 yards---gets stuffed. Mention the o-line all you want, but it's an nfl o-line, and you should be able to get around 4 yards on average, no matter who you are--unless you're old(which see martin, curtis; dillon, corey; etcetera). he breaks the occasional run for about 15 yards, I'll give him that, but we're not talking tatum bell here where he'll get you a few big ones and then some short junk. we're talking like 1,0,2,1,3,3,-2,16,2,1,4,3. 3) note his receptions---so often they are meaningless junk yards. He has numbers, yes, but that's all they are. this team has made virtually no upgrade production wise, although they sure have provided the fantasy football world with a blessing...now it's 1 back getting all those yards instead of 3 or 4! 4)he's had 4 really nice games. 7 horrid performances. and 1 mediocre showing. It's not surprising those 4 good games were against buffalo(31st vs the run!), cleveland(4,523rd against the run!), and KC/dallas(good teams, sarcasm not available). 5) he went through a stretch of 90 carries....90 carries...were he averaged 2.0 yards. That's just awful, I'm sorry. 6) i really wanna address this catch thing more closely. He is basically the 3 rbs oakland had last year rolled into one player with zero upgrade production-wise. why is this good, and when you're paying 4 times as much? I'm betting you don't care, but lamont is 26th in RB's receiving production as measured by DVOA. if you do care, that tells you something. I wish he were healthy, because if you stop him(not very hard) you shut down that team. Now, if he's gone, well, hmm, things'll change up a bit. |

No, the first goal of every team is to win their division. Not to just be lucky to get a playoff spot. Denver could lose their next two and end up being a wild card team. Do you think Denvers first step was getting a wild card or the division title? |

It's the OLine. This new coach that Norb brought in is trying to run zone blocking with Gallery and 4 lumps that cant get out of their own way with TE's that cant block worth a **** either.
Why don't you try watching some games? Most of those carries that only go for 2 yards he's met by a defender 4 yards into the backfield at the snap. When we played the Eagles, Trotter was in the backfield before some of those guys got out of their stance. 2nd level blocks? Hell, they're allowing defenders to run right past them when taking that zone step and not getting any 1st level blocks. |

Strangely enough, Jordan has been the one great addition to that offense that actually panned out for them. If they would just feed the dude the rock more than 15 times a game, I bet he would have had a much better effect on their O.
Next year, you can be sure we will see lots and lots of that guy since he should be even better IMO. Now, if only the guy can learn to hold onto those screen passes, we'd be talking about one scary RB.

That aside, this guy is having a poor season, and while it can obviously change with a few adjustments(both him and some surrounding upgrades), i'm still disappointed that he's not gonna be the focal point of that offense this week. You guys have a shot now. |

Nah, no shot.. they've mailed it in. Half the team is questionable or out this week. I'll probably just throw a tape in and watch it later when I have a good buzz on.

Jordan has played well. I would rather he not played against us and let them use Fergus or whatever his name is.

I actually hope we get in Mario Williams territory, but dont have any photoshop skills to pull it off.. Crow found this pic somewhere.
Mario Williams Ngata Kiwi. I'd rate Hawk 2nd on my wish list except I doubt they go LB in the first since they're snakebitten doing that. |

Actually my dream scenario would be Ngata in the 1st followed up by Manny Lawson in the 2nd. Get that friggin DL straightened out once and for all.
Grab Runyan and Footnoi in FA and I'd be happy. Fix the friggin lines and a lot of problems go away. |

Denver fans, do NOT **** up the clean 0-6 division sweep.
Give Oakland NOTHING positive to take away from the season. Keep them dogs at the bottom where they belong. ![]() |

Comparing Jordan to Bell is also way off the mark. There isn't many Bells in the NFL.....look at the number of 20+ yard carries compared to the rest of the league and you know he is a serious home run threat. Jordan is more of a chugger....on a pretty bad team, but still a chugger. I'm surprised you would bring up DVOA, but it explains your strange position on this one. |

Coyer should be dusting off every blitz package in the book for the first quarter/part of second quarter, and then all the coverage packages once collins is sufficiently punch drunk. Just the threat of getting hit makes collins a scattergun.
We won't really even have to close down the run much since they don't have a sustained running attack without jordan. If the offense can get the early lead, this should be downhill the rest of the way. |
