Default NBC Sunday night football

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20051215/sp_nm/nfl_dc

Nine months before it takes over the Sunday night NFL game from ESPN, NBC is making more moves to brand that night its own.

NBC Sports said Wednesday that the name of the studio show will be "Football Night in America."

NBC's multiyear rights deal begins in early September with a Thursday night extravaganza and game. The details of the first Sunday night game won't be announced until April, but the four-hour coverage will be anchored by NBC Olympics and sports personality Bob Costas.

He also will host the studio show, which NBC Sports said is the first primetime Sunday broadcast TV show about the NFL. The one-hour show will begin at 7 p.m. ET, around the same time games on CBS and NBC will conclude. Kickoff is set for 8:15 p.m. ET.

Several other pieces of the broadcast already are in place, with the naming of John Madden as on-air analyst and Cris Collinsworth as in-studio analyst. A play-by-play announcer hasn't been picked, though the natural -- Al Michaels -- agreed during the summer to remain with ABC and move to ESPN when it takes over "Monday Night Football" in the fall.

As long as Michaels keeps his job, I´m happy. He´s the best football commentator by far.

I'm still squemish about the flex scheduling.....especially the potential to mess with travel plans or euchre me into not seeing the Broncos someway somehow. I'll also miss NFL Primetime and I'm not convinced that Football Night in America will be the bullshat free show that Primetime was.

It's gonna be a strange 2006/7 season, that's for sure.

What happen with NFL primetime? I don't understand why ESPN couldn't do a show.

Point After on the NFL Network shows the highlights and press conferences on Sunday evening, but the commentary is very bland, they show highlights of routine field goals and they'll cut out anything controversial because its run by the league.

I think the flex scheduling is going to be awesome! It is really going to help the league, and plus im sick of watching crappy games on Sunday nights, this is going to be sweet!

Hopefully it doesnt turn into a Payaton fest where all we get is his games. THEY BETTER use this chance to platform the games of the WEEK, not superstars of the week.

Not if you fly into a place expecting a 4 PM game and then it's switched to that night and your flight leaves in the AM....that is not sweet or awesome at all.

It might help the League, but it's gonna screw some fans and God help us if Denver ever goes thru some lean years.

That'd be great if your cable company actually carried NFL Network....unfortunately, Time Warner in my area does not

Wait a second. What do you mean Hogan? Are you saying they will change start times of games or even the day they are played on? Can't be?

That could cause serious logistical issues while travelling.

The way I understand it, they can change the start times for the Sunday games on ya, but not the Monday one.

Wow Hogan, that does really throw a kink into things. If that's true, that is so weak. I'm all for having say, 2 primetime games, 1 shown regionally, and the better game shown everywhere else so we don't have to endure crappy games, but changing up start times on fans would cause so many problems.

From what I heard they have a flexible schedule and can only change 4 games during the whole year. So NBC will go after the later games on the schedule, but they will only have 4 games so it shouldnt be to much changes since it will be on the same day.

Football Night in America ?? er.. Hockey Night in Canada
nothing is original anymore.

I also have seen that they could change the game times in as little as 4 weeks. As a guy that has not missed a game at Mile High in 10 years and goes to one road game a year. THAT WILL PISS ME OFF if I've made plans months in advance!!!

NBC will have exclusive rights to highlights so no ESPN wrapup show until after the Sunday game has concluded.

ESPN is going with the "whole day of football on monday" with more nfl programming throughout the day.

Basically sold out for the tourist game that Monday Night has become.

I'm against it but thats cause I have to work there....
