BRONCOS SIGN CB ANTWAUN ROGERS TO PRACTICE SQUAD
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — The Denver Broncos on Thursday signed cornerback Antwaun Rogers to their practice squad, Head Coach Mike Shanahan announced.

Rogers (6-2, 172 pounds) is a rookie who was out of football since the completion of his collegiate career at Purdue University following the 2004 season. A four-year starter at Purdue, Rogers played 44 career games (43 starts) and totaled 206 tackles (143 solo), seven interceptions (24 yds.), 37 pass breakups, two fumble recoveries and one forced fumble.

Rogers, 23, earned honorable mention All-Big Ten Conference recognition as a junior in 2003 after posting a career-best 61 tackles (45 solo), one interception (3 yds.) and nine pass breakups as a 13-game starter. As a freshman in 2001, he started all 12 games and tied for second on the team with a personal-best three interceptions while recording eight pass breakups and 50 tackles (36 solo).

Rogers was rated the No. 16 defensive back and the No. 150 player overall in the nation by Prep Football Report at Middletown High School in Middletown, Ohio. He blocked six kicks during his senior season and also saw time at running back. David Antwaun Rogers was born Aug. 29, 1982

Here is a blurb from sporting news.

Purdue CB Antwaun Rogers has displayed the ability to shut down receivers. Rogers is 6-2, 172, with long arms but must get stronger. He tackles well, has excellent recognition skills and is tremendous defending balls in the air. He's a Day 1 pick whose stock is going up....

I just hope he has large feet so that he doesn't just sink into the ground where he stands.

In other news, Broncos also sign the Jolly Green Giant to play WR. This gives Plummer a target in the middle of the field and end zone that he might not overthrow.

Saw Rogers play at Purdue. He is a shorter Lenny Walls athletic type with better ball recognition skills. He played well in big games and was very good on deep coverage. Biggest problem was blowing the ACL before the Draft and Combine. Has better play recognition and overall awareness of the play. Did not remember his height being a detriment to covering the double move. I think he had decent speed, but nothing like the Four 4.3 guys they have right now.
