Default So... If Houston has the first pick.....

Do you really think they would draft Reggie Bush?

IMO, RB is the least of Houston's worries. If I'm Houston's GM, if I have the #1 pick, I would trade down. They need O-line help in the worst way. Dom Davis is a top 10 RB and I think David Carr will be a player in this league if they actually had a line in front of them. I don't want to see Bush in Houston.
Bush would be a wasted pick for Houston when they have so many other holes.
They have a RB, QB, and WR of the future. They have holes everywhere else.

Thoughts?

They will trade to Jets who will pick Leinart and use the extra choice(s) they get to draft big guys on both sides if they are smart.

Despite the need, I dont think the Jets can even afford to stay in the top area of the draft much less moving up to no. 1. Just a year or two ago, they gave Pennington a signing bonus of over 20 million. You cant add another 25 million bonus now, esp. at the same position.

Couldn't agree more. Taking Bush or Leinart would be foolhardy although, for reasons of driving up the price, they have to appear interested in taking either one. If they appear too desperate to trade down, they won't be able to get as much in return.

And whatever they get in return, it *has* to be spot on for Houston. Owner Bob McNair was publicly ripping the GM in today's Houston Chronicle for the Phillip Buchanon trade - a 2 and a 3 for a former #1 who can't tackle and blows coverages.

IOW, the pressure will be on any trade-down for the Texans to get this one right.

Miami might be willing to give their whole draft for Linart. That would change the way the draft goes. Bush would go to whoever has number two.

Bob should have been on this forum when that trade came down. Half of us were screaming bloody murder.

I could live with Reggie Bush. Otherwise, give me two pass rushers.

Id imagine if Houston and Denver are willing to deal in such a manner, its going to cost alot more than something like the 18th pick and the 29th pick to get to No. 1 overall.

On the other hand, it is the Texans. They might be dumber, or at least as dumb as the Skins.

I say they take Bush in a situation simliar to that of the Chargers and Eli (minus the whining by Bush, his brother and his dad) and if they can get value for him/Domanick Davis, they take it, and if they don't, they keep him.

No they wouldn't. Saban is trying to stockpile picks & might trade down to gain more picks. He's rebuilding his team & he certainly will not throw it all away for a QB. The fins need a QB for the future, but they're not going to move up to select Leinart.

I don't see how Houston can pass on Bush... He's done too much to be passed over. There would be riots in Houston if they did pass on him. Yeah their lines are terrible but they can use FA to bring in some talent there and take the most talented player to come out since Vick...

There is a lot of talk in Houston about them not being happy with Carr and him potentially being kicked to the curb. They won't draft Bush, but I would expect them to trade down to #2 and pick up Leinart.

BTW...did it look like the kicker threw the game yesterday on that FG? Worst kick I have ever seen.

Somebody with Photoshop skills should design a "Houston Tanxans" logo with the rear end of the bull on the helmet.

True that. However, Casserly did pass on Derrick Johnson last year, traded down from #13 to #16 and only got a future third-rounder from the Saints for the privilege.

If I were the Texans and I was willing to hand you the #1 overall for your two #1s, I would probably also ask for your 2007 #1 (it will likely be a low #1) and somebody we could plug into the OL right away such as Matt Lepsis.

Right now the skins pick is #16, Denver's pick is #30.

Need the Falcons to win tonight to improve to 8-5.

You're basically asking for 4 1st round picks for a guy not named John, Peyton, Ron Mexico, or Eli. For as great as Reggie is, he plays the wrong to position to pull such a return.

Agree, but some team will toss the farm at Leinart.

I never think it's a good idea to spend such a high pick on a RB. Blow a knee & all is lost.

He won't pull a huge return, but maybe something that does pull a future 1st. He's a great college QB, but everyone admits he is not an uber-physical speciman at the position.

But there are 5-6 teams out there that are desperate for anything that even resembles a QB. I think someone will get stupid enough to pay a high price.
Jets, Lions, Cardinals, Raiders come to mind.

You already know what I think, based on my mock.

Houston trades down to the Saints, who take Leinart at #1. Houston won't deal with the J-E-T-S, because they are AFC and they don't want Leinart to be in the conference. Besides, in last years draft the Texans dealt with the Saints, so they are already somewhat "trading partners," like Denver and Washington.

Bush the goes to the Jets, and Houston drafts Ferguson like they always wanted anyways. In return, Houston will get N.O.'s 1st rounder next year, and either their 2nd or 3rd rounder this year.

Houston gets who they wanted, get two high 1st rounders next year, and 2 high 2nd rounders this year...

Imagine what their draft could look like:

1) OT Ferguson
2a) OG Jean-Gilles
2b) C Greg Eslinger

Can you say....revamped line? Heh. All for giving up basically nothing...and two top 10 picks probably still coming in 2007...
