Default Pardoned Turkey Is Going to Disneyland

damn Bush pardons...

ANAHEIM, Calif. - President Bush is set to make the traditional pardon of a Thanksgiving turkey today. But this bird isn't heading to some petting zoo. It's going to Disneyland.

The 35-pound Tom Turkey will be grand marshall of the Disneyland Thanksgiving Day parade.

And the big bird is flying west in style. After the reprieve on the White House lawn, the turkey and it's alternate will be given a police escort to a Washington-area airport.

From there they'll fly first-class to Los Angeles. After the parade duties are over, the turkeys will live out their days at a Disneyland ranch.

35 pounds is too damn big to cook anyway. Biggest turkey I ever cooked was 25 pounds and that was too big. I think 20 pounds is perfect.

Has anyone here had a deep fried turkey? Is it as good or better then the usual baking it in the oven bird? I bought a electric turkey deep fryer off qvc a few weeks ago and I'm gonna deep fry a 12 pounder while my sister is baking a 22 pounder.

Republicans steal Thanksgiving

As the Republicans go home for Thanksgiving this week, House leaders are congratulating themselves on having squeaked through a divisive budget bill that takes canned goods from the poor in order to fund more luxuries for the rich.

The $50 billion in budget cuts for programs that help the poor will not quite cover the $57 billion in tax cuts for the rich they plan on ramming through right after the break.

In order to save face, they decided not to take up the giveaways in dividend and estate taxes on the same day they cut Food Stamps, Medicaid, and college loans.

But the connection is very clear. Dennis Hastert lectured his booing colleagues on fiscal responsibility and the importance of doing something about the deficit his own party has created. The Democrats were not buying it.

According to the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, "Many of the cuts would hit low-income people directly and hard."

In a word, yes. I would suggest frying the 22 pounder and baking the 12. The 12 pounder will cook for less time, leaving it juicier. And deep frying a 22 pounder will take about 2.5 min/lb (make sure to double check that time though) and it will be juicy and good. Use peanut oil, if possible (check food allergies first) but any high flash cooking oil will do. I also suggest looking up some tasty sauce injection recipies for your fried turkey. You could go with a cajun type spice thing, a roast garlic type thing, or an asian ginger, soy garlic type thing. I highly recommend an injection and be sure to fry it outdoors, not in the garage and especially not the house. As always, keep children and pets away and have a fire extinguisher handy just in case. All goes well you'll be in for a very tasty Thanksgiving treat and you may pass on a baked bird for years to come. Also, you can use the same technique with chicken and pheasant, which I've found come out nicely as well. Happy hunting.

Thanx raiderH8r. Well the Turkey fryer I bought is an Electric one that you use indoors. It hold's up to a 14lb turkey. It has a digital timer on it where you just punch in the weight of the bird and it automatically sets the proper temp and time. 48min. for a 14 pounder. You have to preheat the oil for 1 hr though before lowering the basket with bird into the fryer.

Yea I'm gonna use it for deep frying chicken as well. You can also use it to cook/steam seafood and other things. I'm hoping it turns out good.

That's cool. Then the biggest thing is to cordon off an area around it, kids/pets/half drunk relatives+5 gallons of hot oil=disaster. Safety is always the biggest hang up. But after that it's all good eats. And who says turkey should only be for Thanksgiving, I got hooked and do it about every other month. It's great for parties too (be sure to save the "oysters" for the ones you love too)

Multi use is good. We took a 16 gal keg and took the top off to make a seafood steamer. Then we buy 20 lbs of king crab legs, lobster tails, shrimp, a couple dozen ears of corn, clams, oysters, taters, seasoning, toss'em all in and start prepping about 10 lbs of drawn butter 20-30 of your closest friends, a little donation pot to offset the cost and it's party time. Oh yeah.....2-3 kegs of your favorite beer is also a good option.
