Default I would be kicking the Coach and principals ass

(11/19/05 - KTRK/CLEVELAND, TX) - A student was paddled at school, and

now his mother wants answers for the school's choice of punishment.

Diane Schauer doesn't argue that her son deserved to be punished, but it was the type of punishment he got that left her fuming.

"I was very angry," she said. "I'm beyond angry."

Two weeks ago, Jacob Schauer was caught getting leaving Cleveland Middle School early. For his punishment, he was sent to the coach's office where he had to endure a series of paddles.

"I can't describe it," said Jacob. "It hurt really bad."

Schauer claims that the paddling was so hard that Jacob still aches with pain. A doctor even prescribed the teen muscle relaxers so that he can sleep.

"It hurt. It stung," said Jacob. "It was like a bunch of bees stinging at once."

What troubles Schauer the most is that she claimed to have signed a form denying teachers the right to paddle her son. When she complained to the principal, she claims her concerns were ignored.

"I said, 'Don't hit and whoop him' and he said 'We don't need your permission. That's just a courtesy,'" said Schauer. "Then why send it home if it's a courtesy?"

In a statement released by Cleveland ISD, officials deny any wrongdoing. The statement read:

"We did not violate any law, and as a courtesy to parents, we do ask them, but we don't, by state law, need their permission."

"They cannot whoop our children," said Schauer. That is a parent's job. We gave birth to those children. We created those kids. It's our job to discipline them that way, not anyone else's."

Both the coach and principal did not want to talk about the incident.

There was some confusion recently with the passing of a new state House bill. It said only parents, grandparents, step-parents or a guardian could use corporal punishment such as paddling. But recently, Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott issued his opinion that public schools did not lose their right to spank students under this new bill, and that a professional school district employee may use corporal punishment as permitted by state law.

A freaking courtesy ?? F off ...... damn texans ........

When she was in grade school, some teacher thought my cousin was hiding something from him, so he stepped on her hand to make her open it up. My Uncle Edwin grabbed him in the parking lot the next day and beat his ass.

Go job on the schools part....structure is a must with the yutes....if the little one still hurts from it....good....serves the little bastard right.

now that I am a parent

I can see the angle of not wanting anyone to touch your kid

but that being said, lack of discipline and knowing the teacher and school can't do a thing to you is the main reason public schools suck so bad now

That's not the main reason. It's only a partial reason. Parenting is a bigger factor than the reason you've stated.

yeah, you are right

lack of parenting more like it

I'd also say lack of good father figures too, but that may cause a stir

None here either. Raising kids is a full time job that needs to be taken very seriously. Sounds like we have many very good parents on this board, but unfortunately many are not.

One piece of optimistic news recently was that the number of births by teenage unwed mothers in the US was down. Sorry, can't remember the exact stats and don't have time to search for the link.

b****es constantly put themselves in these fatherless situations...they're ultimately to blame. They go out...get their drink on....hit the hay with some guy they just met...and 9 months later...BABOOM...then they try to raise the kid by themselves...terrible.

well good

obviously I think a single woman can raise kids by herself w/o the kid growing up to be a monster

but there is a reason why it takes 2 to tango so to speak

Fathers play a huge role in kids lives, now that I am one, I have to remind myself that everyday when she cries and cries and cries

man talk about learning patience

I don't think it's a just teenage problem...seriously...unwed-mothers/divorcees without a well established carreer are also a problem.

I dated this girl with a 2 year-old. Cool. Tried to help...to steer her in the right direction. Helping her with her career. Showing her how the game is played. Technically she was still married. POS husband wasn't chippin in...Garcia steps in...even put a little money into a CD for the kid. Cutest little girl....would have called her my own.......................................

Wasn't good enough apparently...

Now the girl has walked out on her job and benefits. Think about that parents. She was a single parent and walked out on her job....that means no benfits...no rent money...no food money....with a, now, 3-year-old. Her parents have a little cash...and she is 27 with kid sponging off her parents. Stupid woman...even dumber parents...and that poor little girl.

my wife works with people on TANF, not sure what that means, but it is the last step before you lose your welfare, since you can't be on it for life now

she sees this kind of thing daily

also sees a lot of abusive husbands beating the piss out of the wives, so they have to leave and don't have a source of income

this is a two way street.

guys constantly go out looking to get laid. they make note of the girl who's got her drink on as she would be easier to get in the sack. it's not just the female, nor is it just the male...it's the society we've created. we lack respect for eachother and place our personal desires over everyone else. we live in an incredibly self centered society and we are seeing all the fruits of that. if you don't think this society is selfish, remember that when you head home and see some jerk-off weaving in and out of traffic putting eveyone's safety at risk so he/she can get somewhere 3 minutes faster...

That's right man. And nowadays you don't really know how the princable or teacher really is behind closed doors. They could be some sadistic sob who gets off on paddling the kid and commits abuse. Send the kid home to me and I will deal with his/her punishment. Thru taxes I pay you to educate my child not beat him.

Showing my age here, but in my day, if I got it at school, I got it twice as bad at home. Back then, there was an evil adult conspiracy - they were all in on it. Parents and teachers backed each other up.

Now it's "no one but no one will lay a hand on one of my kids"

If my 12 YO is being a jackass, I would want someone in authority to straighten his a$$ out. Kids need to know there are consequences to actions - often painful and immediate.

I know it's not going to happen in this day and age - that's why I paid for Catholic school for the first 5 years of my son's education - and we're not Catholic. But Sister Elenor don't take no crap off those little hooligans.

I have nothing against a couple of whacks on the buttocks for a child who just isn't listening. It gets their attention and they know you mean business but, I will be the one to administer the butt whoopin' if I deem it appropiate not someone else. My family, my rules.
