I'm sure that we can't use the TM logo on any of these designs which would include: players/uniforms/etc. That being said, my DQ'ed submission I just "threw together:"

Its very simple to do, but its what you do with it that counts...

Its just a highly successful technique, especially if you use it in a really subtle way...

Nice masking. I like the Grain effect on the BG...

Alot of times when I mask, I just use Layer Masks. That way you can Expand/Contract and Gaussian Blur the mask easily- to get the effects you really want...

I didn't mask. Its just Rod in a layer by himself on top of the image of Rod behind him. I lowered the hue/saturation down -100 and -180 and added a bit of noise with a small gaussian blur. I think put the layer of Rod by himself from the original image in full color by himself.

Here's another method, getting the same result (though what is colored I chose differently, less work)

Using the simple replace color theme and dropping everything but what you want colored down to grayscale.

I really like that look. The B&W background with the Rod in full color. It really makes the player pop if ya know what I mean. Good job guys. Hey Alec, do ya think you'll be doing anything with the horse, lightening and mountains I posted?

"That look" = selective Desaturation.

Hitting the "D" key, you can use any coloring tool in the MODE>SATURATION option to replace any hue with B&W.
Not hitting the "D" key will saturate with the colours on your palette. Here's and example:

Top = normal background I used in my DQ'ed submission.
Middle = same bg with ORANGE and BLUE set as foreground/background colours.
Bottom = coloring with same tool/mode after hitting "D" key.

If you haven't watched Sin City, presumably you've been living under a rock or smoking one.

Heh, desaturating is much easier. One button. Instead of changing hue and saturation levels all the way down, thats all you have to do.

We will GreatBronco. When the forum gets set up I am going to be adding at least one new tutorial a week for various things (requests can be made via PM). Hopefully other's decide they want to add tutorials too.

I think the first tutorial will be how to extract part of an image (such as a player on a playing field) quickly and accurately since that is used so much in photoshop work.

That's great man. And I would really love to know how you extract certain images from a pic.
