Q: "As a HOF voter, where do you think Hines Ward stacks up? He epitomizes everything a wide receiver should mean to a team and he just recently eclipsed John Stallworth's all-time receptions record with the Steelers. Is he not the best intangible wide receiver of his generation?'' A: "Rod Smith is. Great hands, best blocker of his day among receivers, incredibly productive. But Ward will get an airing for the Hall if he continues on the path he's on, because he's totally selfless, has tremendous guts and is a keystone to everything the Steelers do. How can you not respect the guy?" |

Ward 120 games 6603 yds Smith 160 game 10381 How does ward get the nod and not rod? Ward's gotten approx 45 yds per game to Smiths over 60? Is my math off? Last edited by bendog; 11-15-2005 at 08:55 AM.. |

If Rod Smith isn't a Hall of Famer then we might as well take up a collection to build our own shrine somewhere else 'cuz it just ain't happening for us. I think he'll make it, though.
TD, on the other hand, he's gonna need our lobbying. It's interesting, Rod and TD represent opposite ends of the spectrum. The former is one of the most consistent recievers of all-time, a bit unsung and underappreciated outside of Denver but with numbers up the wazoo. TD had a tragically short career but was THE most dominant player of the 90's. Of course, we'll probably get stiffed both ways just 'cuz Denver is a second-rate team that never existed beyond ole' number seven. |

I'm not sure Rod has the numbers. IF he hangs on and conts being productive for a few more years, prolly. But to say Ward is HOF and Rod not IN THE SAME SENTENCE. King's a fat idiota-hole
TD does not have the yards. Zimmerman not being a finalist is a joke. He was all decade TWICE |

Both guys deserve to get in.
Just checking in from chilly London UK on my hotels computer. I Woke up last night at 2am to catch the British version of NFL Live and saw the ass whompin we put on Oakland! DW looked awesome on the highlights. Jake is on fire and sounds like the D-line was kicking ass too. Lelie caught a few good ones it seems as well and drew a PI or defensive holding on the Oakland 5 that set up another score. I'll be back in sunny Hawaii just in time to take in the Jets game Can anyone tell me how Lepsis is doing? I saw a report that he was injured. Did anyone else get banged up? The TO thing could be a crap shoot but if Shanny can get him to play and not be a dick perhaps its worth a chance. He'd have to be on a real short leash from the get go though. Wrong. I and others already pointed out how East Coast players are "better" than Bronco players. Quote:

during a radio interview last week, Shanny was asked about TO and he brought up the fact that the Broncos were not interested in TO in 2004 when the 49ers were trying to trade him and wondered why they would be intersted in him now.. |

Here's my Broncos HoF list in order of worthiness:
1. Shannon Sharpe- First ballot, gauranteed. 2. Gary Zimmerman- 20 years of dominance, saved our O-line in '98 with two bad shoulders. 3. Terrell Davis- A simply unforgettable run. Avg. yards per carry and performance in the clutch two strengths. 4. Mike Shanahan- Will be a shoo-in after his next championship. 5. Rod Smith- Founder of the "Undrafted" Nation. Just a great all-around player. Value to the community will greatly benefit him with hindsight. 6. Steve Atwater- It's tough for Safeties, but ably took the hard-hitting torch from Lott. Could've used a couple more seasons. |

TD has the rings, the mvp, the SBmvp, but NOT the yards. Sorry.
Shannon, Zim and Atwater, agreed. But who knows how the voters will job Den Rod ... boderline but climbing. |

I'm sure if you sent Peter King an Email asking if he thought Rod Smith was Hall worthy he would say yes.
Bottom Line is, Ward was the topic of the question and like a good journalist, peter King stayed on topic. The only reason Rod was part of the answer was the emailers last line calling ward the best intangible player, King disagreed. |

Chris Carter had over 13000, so did Ellard, Largent, Reed. If Rod hangs on for another 2-3 years, he's about there. Irving goes in with 11905 Monk had just under 13000 and apparantly is NOT good enough. Why is a mystery to me. |
