PHENOMENAL!! What got you interested in American football, DownUnder? Are there fans of it down there - fans NOT from America?

Those photos and your overall odyssey of American football would make a great Sports Illustrated story, or for any magazine - ESPN even.

Obviously, the photos inside the Broncos lockerrom at Invesco and with George Foster ('ave a Fosters, mate!) are the most imprssive. The Giants Stadium tailgating photos are pretty great, too. Are your buddies there OrangeMane folks? If so, what are their usernames?

I especially like your acquisition of local t-shirts at every stop on the tour. Great choices for stops, too - Penn State, Michigan, Nebraska, Texas, Giants Stadium, and of course Denver.

But how about a more detailed day-by-day log, please? And . . . MORE PHOTOS!!

I canīt speak for Oz, but I can for Germany and thereīs defo some non American football fans here. Donīt really know what got me into it, but in the early 90s one channel always showed the Conference Championships games. I watched one of the Dallas/SF games one day and that got me interested in the sport. The internet has obviously helped me enormously.

Pretty broad-minded of your youthful, early-90s self, Jens . . .

Whenever I look at the NFL-Europe news, it seems all the teams (save Amsterdam and London) are in Germany - is that right? Rhein, Berlin, Frankfurt . . . ?

It's pretty impressive how that league - in just what, 9 or 10 years? - has molded current NFL stars . . . I think both Ben Hamilton and Matt Lepsis played there, to mention just 2 Broncos.

_____

What makes you a Mason Crosby fan? He nailed another monster yesterday vs. Iowa State - I think 55 yards?

We lost to the Iowa State Cyclones, though. But whadd'ya expect when the game was delayed by REAL cyclones! (no joke)

Glad you made it back home DownUnder. Last we saw of him was dropping him off at some random location downtown a few weeks ago with the bus. lol

Someday we'll have to organize a trip out your way to tour your country! Any luck with the job lead?

Iīm no NFL Europe expert by any means as itīs pretty hard to get attached to a team when they have basically have a whole new roster every season. I used to go to 1 or 2 Frankfurt Galaxy games every season, but havenīt really had the time the last few years. I sometimes watch it on TV, but I canīt really get into it. 5 of the 6 (Rhein Fire (Düsseldorf), Cologne Centurions, Berlin Thunder, Hamburg Sea Devils) are from Germany and this seems to be the most profitable country for the NFL in Europe. The Frankfurt Galaxy are the most traditional NFLEL team as they were in existence when the NFLEL still was the World League with some US teams. The Glasgow, Barcelona and London franchises were moved as they simply couldnīt get decent crowds, whereas teams like Frankfurt during the good years got average crowds of almost 40k. Amsterdam only gets 12k on average, so they could be moved here in the near future. Stuttgart, my hometown, and Munich look the most likely candidates.

The league doesnīt break even, but I think the NFL teams enjoy giving some players who are not quite there yet a chance to prove themselves at a half decent level against other NFL players. Back in October the NFL approved the NFLELīs business plan for the next 5 years so itīs here to stay for a while.

Kurt Warner, Jake Delhomme and Adam Vinatieri, among others, have played here as well.

I want Crosby on the Broncos when he comes out and I just like to keep my teams close to "home", which in my case is Denver for the US sports. I more or less was a general fan of the sport until the day the Broncos lost the Jacksonville game in the Divisional Playoffs. Somehow that got me hooked on the team. A fellow countryman, Uwe Krupp, playing for the Avs also made my decision a bit easier to make Denver my "home".

UWE KRUPP! - The Stanley-Cup-Winning-Goal!

Krupp was a monster - a real giant - what, 6'7", 260? Last time I saw him he was a Detroit Red Wing in 2002.

Funny that the Jacksonville playoff game was the one that hooked you on the Broncos . . .that loss (along with the 1984 playoff loss to 8-8 Pittsburgh @ Mile High) are widekly acknowledged as the worst (non Super Bowl) losses in franchise history. You are DEFINITELY NOT a band-wagon jumper!

BTW - that Jacksonville game was also the very last game they wore the old uniforms.

Yeah, I call it "Tex-ass" because there's so much FINE ass there. Women we just phenomenal. I'm 6'3" so I LOVE a tall girl, they make me stand up "straight-er"!

As for "crossing" teams, I'm happy to do it once, as long as they aren't scheduled to clash with MY team in the regular season, Nebraska! I even convinced the Texas fans that they had to cheer FOR Big Red on October 29th, when we played Oklahoma!

What got me interested in American Football? I had a teacher at school who showed us the basics and I enjoyed it. But a few years later when I was 17 years old I hated school, I hated parents, hated everything (as you do at that age) and a friend told me of a team, so we went to have a look. From the first moment I put pads on that night, I didn't care how crap my day was and that guy trying to tackle me was a GREAT focal point for frustration!
Adrelaline combined with stress releif - I played ever since!
(Having to BUY my own gear, about $400 worth, taught me a LOT about how much a wanted to play!)
As for "fans" down here, there aren't many but some, like myself, are HARDCORE and will WILLINGLY venture up to the top deck of Giants Stadium and take the "boos" as we go! Sadly though, FAR too many Australians are scared of the US and lack the BALLS to just go travel and enjoy the games!!

Thanks Meck, it was AWESOME to meet you and the guys "attached" to OrangeForceOne! Thanks for everything!
Tell Disco, I have an avatar/GIF file for him I just can't manage to get the color pallette to settle, but as soon as I get that straightened out, I'll post it!

GREAT PICS!!! Glad to hear you made it back to Australia. As a Penn State Alum those were my favorite, but the locker room pics and the Texas tailgate are up there!! There is something about girls wearing cowboy hats and drinking beer (in tight shirts and short skirts!)!!!
Are you planning another trip for next year?? You may have some followers from the U.S.

Looks like you had a great time Down Under. Come back again and make sure you include some south eastern teams in your tour. The girls may not be as tall as in Texas, but they are more friendly. U of Florida, Georgia and Mississippi are probably the best in that regard. Kentucky is under rated by most folk.
