Default Al Davis mad at the officials!

Sour grapes make a fine whine, Al!

AROUND THE LEAGUE

Raiders owner Al Davis is furious over the officiating in Sunday's 27-23, last-second loss to the Chiefs in Kansas City.

For the third straight year, the Raiders drew referee Larry Nemmers' crew for the road trip to KC. And for the third straight year, Nemmers' crew played a role in the outcome. The Raiders have lost all three games, by eight total points. The Chiefs' game-winning drive Sunday was helped along by a tripping penalty on Raiders defensive tackle Ed Jasper that negated a sack of Trent Green. The penalty gave the Chiefs a first down at midfield with 27 seconds left. Three plays later, running back Larry Johnson scored on a 1-yard dive with no time left.

Sources close to Davis say he doesn't understand why the league allows Nemmers, who is from Springfield, Mo., to work so many Chiefs games. NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said it's strictly a coincidence that Nemmers and his crew have worked the last three Raiders games in KC. He said crew assignments are selected randomly by a computer and don't take into account where the officials live. He also said crews are not allowed to work more than two of a team's games per season. And those games must be at least six weeks apart. Nemmers and his crew also worked the Raiders' 23-20, Week 3 loss to the Eagles. Davis, sources say, blames them for that defeat as well.

In that game, a roughing-the-passer penalty on linebacker DeLawrence Grant kept alive a drive that resulted in the Eagles' go-ahead touchdown. Safety Nnamdi Asomugha also was called for illegal contact on the Eagles' game-winning drive.

Bob does it again...pointing out how lucky and inept his own favorite team is.

BTW, who was the officiating team that Denver drew in the Giants game?

I know. KC only wins because they are lucky. Denver only wins because they are good.

sure the play helped but KC had to make the plays before adn after the call in order for the call to largely effect the outcome.

Wow! That is an eye opener. You mean there is proof that the mullets get an edge from the officials? What? No way! Just because they have coke bottle glases and cant see Dainty run around much less a block in the back, doesn't mean anything. Does it?

To be fair, I think there is a kernal of truth to what old greasy Al is saying here. At point: the officiating has gotten crappy. So, what else is new?

KC gets no more of an edge from the officials than any other team.

So, when can we expect the NFL to fine Al Davis for his comments about the officials?

Bad Calls happen every game.

The tripping call was one of them.

The announcers seemed embarressed for the refs as they showed the replay.

That said, i hate complaining about calls (except when i do it).

That's what random means, that every week every Ref team has an equal chance to draw any football team.

I've been yapping like a neglected woman about that fantasy tripping call all week. The guy had his nose in the turf from holding and never even saw the RB...he was just trying to get up...he never leg whipped to trip him...if you called tripping every time someone tripped over someone's legs it would be called 15 times a game. Johnson should of been agile enough to step over him...it's not his fault the guy is a clumsy oof...

Johnson? It was Trent Green that tripped.

It was a bad call, I have no problem admitting it. As bad as the calls on Jared Allen and Benny Sapp on Oakland's first TD drive.

hey its oaklands fault for not preventing KC from making the plays before and after. Oakland is at fault as much as the officials. take your loss like a man al. or at least a women

OK, it was Trint...just makes the call even more ludicrous...TrInt is about as agile as a sloth. I just assumed it was Johnson...I remember the play tho...the DL guy had his face in the carpet and was trying to roll back up...I don't think he even saw TrInt.

Actually tripping is only intended to be called in 2 places...1.the whole through which the running back is running or the path to which a defender is taking to the QB or 2. a defender trips to tackle
