Default Sports illustrated power rankings

NFL Power Rankings
RankLWTeam
11Indianapolis Colts (7-0)
First they'll run Edgerrin James at the Patriots, and see if they have anywhere near the success Buffalo did with Willis McGahee last Sunday night. When New England stops that, the Colts will see how Duane Starks likes trying to cover Reggie Wayne, giving Starks the same unmerciful treatment they awarded Denver's poor Roc Alexander in last year's playoffs. Remember? The Patriots will be forced to give Starks double-team help, and if they ease up on the way they're covering Marvin Harrison on the other side, Peyton's gaze will switch to the right, where Asante Samuel will surprise him by how well he's handling Indy's premier receiver. But oh oh, look out for Brandon Stokley, working his crossing patterns against nickel back or combination coverage, or Dallas Clark finding yardage down an open middle. What can change this scenario would be: 1) the Colts screwing it up; 2) the Patriots' defense coming up with something weird and unexpected; or 3) the Colts' defense being a mirage, and Tom Brady making a track meet out of the game, a track meet New England wins.
22Pittsburgh Steelers (5-2)
Whew, I'm exhausted, and we're just starting. Big Ben wasn't right in the wheels dept. on Monday night. But after the Steelers gave him emergency repairs in the locker, he was out there same as usual, the Statue of Liberty being attacked by hawks. He's a big, strong kid, and he prevailed. After the game his insurance actuaries got together, studied his policy and decided to raise his premium by 18 percent.
33New York Giants (5-2)
They won it for Wellington, and how. After the smoke had cleared from the Washington Massacre, you heard all sorts of optimistic opinions, such as, "if they can only keep this going every week," etc. Sorry, but it doesn't work that way. These emotional maelstroms, except in the most abnormal circumstances, usually are quickies, one-shots. I mean look what happened to the Philly defense the week after it overran San Diego. Consistency is what the coaches preach. Just play smart, play nice, don't fight.
46Denver Broncos (6-2)
Yes, a wonderful victory, to be sure, but they came very close to blowing it by leaving a crippled Champ Bailey in too long, after it was obvious he couldn't run or cut. It's not like the guy replacing him was a stiff. Domonique Foxworth only made the biggest play of the game, intercepting a pass in the end zone and halting Philly's comeback.

we will find out this weekend...I'm not so sure they are underrated....Dungy has the D working and we know the offense is lethal...I don't know where you come up with that...yes they have a cake schedule...it might make them lax, but that's a very good team...

If you catch them sleeping you probably can beat them...and they might be complacent...It's just unreal how easy their schedule is....

I could put more analysis out of my starfish...I have no clue how these guys get a paycheck...can you homer any more than that on Indy? Notice all the hack jobs on Denver, but we are still in the list...

It's really funny because they all called the team crazy before the season...

I'm tired of the two faced analyis...they keep making excuses why we win, when we should be 7-1....Denver was JOBBED in the Giants game...pure and simple...I'm not going to even name all the crap calls and expecially no calls...and God swatted down Elam's field goal. I still can't believe that game...

The amusing thing is how they really hedge their bets with the Broncos...it's like they are just waiting for us to trip and fall...yet they are still willing to let Tom Terrific ride them CowGirl...It's pathetic...

God is a Broncos fan so there is no way he would have done that. He must have been busy and I'm guessing Wellington sold his soul to the devil for that swat.

Anyone see that kick? Elam said he nailed it...it was like it was swatted down by Satan...

And the phantom holding call on Foster after a nine yard gain right before...That was a 19 yard penalty...

And WTF was the dual interference on Burress and Champ...Burress was pushing off ALL DAY...he leads the league in offensive interference...

And the freaking holding on the last drive was literally so obvious you would have to be wearing beer googles...

I'm still steamed...two plays, Foster getting a holding call, and then that moved Elam back, gave them a window...

Screw it...I'm going to get the BP bottle out again....

Funny how reality clears the smoke....

Remember when the Vikings were going to win the NFC, the Chiefs had a greatly improved defense, and Shanahan was going to get fired because of a lousy offseason plan.

Hmm. Once again, us Broncos homers aren't drinking the kool-aid, we're serving it.

The best thing about all of the high rankings is that it keeps the chef trolls down a bit. And certainly the faids have been very quiet. I like it very much.

What 6-2 is a great record, second best in fact. They are the leading offensive team in the league and last week dominated the Skins. Even if that was an abberation they did it and got props for it. No beef from me.

Also a good point.

I agree Paladin, us being up by 2 games is great considering all the chief/Bolt/Fade fans are not talking. Once they get a win closer to our record they may pop back in tho.

I'm just sick of East coast lovefests, if it's not Brady or Bruschi, its Eli.
Eli was a wee b**** when drafted and I'm sick of Manning love-ins as well, Peyton isn't awesome so lets, as quoting Kaylore, give Eli a reach-around.

To be honest i'm probably still pissed about that game...

im also pissed about the game as well. But after hearing about the Mara death i eased up a bit. The East coast lovefest is annoying but i guess im used to it by now.

I cant complain about ELi and the draft tho because we also had a crybaby come here who is now the GOAT.

Ture, but our crybaby was just going to play baseball rather than play for another team. He didn't force the trade like Eli and his daddy.

I dont put much stock into power rankings, especially the NFL.

Because anyone can beat anyone on any given Sunday.

I disagree... They are a great team with every weapon imaginable, plus the softest schedule in football. That said, I like our chances against them if we are healthy.

I just don't think we really KNOW how good they are. They are good - you don't go 7 - 0 without being good. But with the schedule they have had, they could be either one of the best teams in the league, or one of the best teams in the history of football.

We just don't know yet.
