oh yeah... for what it's worth, the ad on the thread index is set to split the sticky topics from the non-sticky topics... If anyone is angry about this and has any ideas on how to generate enough money each month to cover the costs of a dedicated server without the ads, my PM box is always open.

Do they still have the Jaws attraction at Universal in California? I was there in 1990 and it was cool to have the shark come out of the water at our tram.

WOTW would have been good 40 years ago but knowing what we know now about Mars it didn't make a lot of sense and the way they get killed off, while admirably and imaginative in the early 1900s, was kind of stupid in the early 21st century.

Jaws was good and one of the best horror flicks ever made, but I really wouldn't put it up there with Private Ryan (havent seen Schindler's List, mostly because the holocaust is one of those things I dont think movies should be made about), and the first Indiana Jones movie, but definately up there with ET.

Maybe Alec can be of some help.

Did you upgrade to 1.07? What are you running?

You can check by doing this:
Help > About Mozilla Firefox

Mine says this:
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.12) Gecko/20050915 Firefox/1.0.7

I heard they were fairly faithful to the story, including the less than galvanizing ending, which sort of turned people off.

Its out on DVD on 11/22. Bigger news. Beavis and Butthead: The Mike Judge Collection Volume One is out on 11/8.

It's just a 2" ad to keep this site free. OMG! My eyes, my eyes! Take it off! Some people would pay for this site to remove the ad, but we would lose about half the members.

WOTW was ruined for me when they set the electro shock impluse that took out all electronics, and then three minutes later they're showing someone holding up an electronic hand-cam to film the alien craft. It was such a blatant oversight that it bugged me for the whole rest of the movie. Usually I can stomach goofiness in a popcorn flick, but WOTW really disappointed me.

Alec - you should see Schindler's list.

It's very well done and is worthy of the subject matter covered. If it wasn't there would've been big problems.

That mechanical shark was in a pool in Universal Studios in LA. Come to think of it, he's still there. I'll never forget how pitiful that thing looked in "real" life. Ah... the magic of Hollywood.

Sorry in advance if this was mentioned before-

Why not offer 2 versions of this website:

1) Free, but with all the ads

2) No Ads, it require a monthly fee, to be AD-FREE

I don't know how easy or hard it is to that with everything you got going on this site, but I would definitely be willing to pay some sort of a monthly fee, as I am sure others would also, to have a completely AD-FREE ZONE...

That wouldn't be bad. But they aren't just on the topic page, they are also appearing in every thread.

That was entirely the problem I found with everyone who saw it. He stuck to the book perfectly, the only difference from Wells classic is it is set now.

People had issues with the end, The President didn't go in and blow the Aliens up, so people were annoyed.

People also had issues with Tom Cruise, playing a deadbeat dad and also a couple of other things his character did, but that is because he played his part excellently, and he didn't shout "show me the money!" thus, the natives were annoyed he didn't play "Tom Cruise".

It was a highly enjoyable film with some AMAZING scenes.
The scene with the train (not a plot point and I'm telling you nothing) is one of the greatest shots I have seen in cinema this decade.
Anyway....

Yep, Almost every other site I visit frequently works this way.
Most of them charge for avatar and image posting rights.

Sorry for the inconvenience folks. I'm not terribly thrilled about it myself to be honest, except that I logged into my Google account and noticed that my click through ratio is higher than it's ever been. With the server bill coming due in December, this is a good thing.

No, not when you put it like that. I think we would lose some quality posters though. I don't want to foot the bill. I would rather have the History Channel do it. It's not ugly. I just scroll past it like it's a waffleboy post.

I am aware of the term of which you speak. I am very quiet about being a Ger right now, we suck.
