Hey Beerslug....Jaws is on TBS right now. You can flip over there if the early games suck.

How about your rep power going up when you buy your way to power? One point per poster unless you ante up to be a big rep dog. From the sounds of things TJ could make a fortune.....

Hahahahhhhhhhhhahahahahaha

These ads are seriously pissing me off

I can't get rid of them even with adblock and that filtermajig installed.

Oh well, once the beer kicks in I'm sure I'll not notice...

It remains arguably Spielberg's greatest movie.

Hmm, tough call, Spielberg has made some great great movies.

He has made some crap too. A.I. comes to mind.

I'm pretty sure this is ADSENSE. Meaning, TJ gets money for every click we make.

Messing with all this rep stuff I realized that I hadn't even put up the life blood of this forum yet. I put them where they are now because they're harder to ignore, thus hopefully generating a few extra clicks per month to help offset costs.

Realizing that not everybody is going to appreciate that, I've started working on creating a "supporter" user group that can avoid the ads. It's not finished yet, but I'm definitely working towards it.

Well if its adsense, I can understand TJ using it but not in the threads and not in the middle of the thread list either. Put it back on top. Im not clicking the damn things anyway, and I doubt many others will either.

Im telling you TJ, there are plenty of other ways to generate revenue for this site without even having ads on this site. If you want some help, let me know.

Tell us what you did and maybe we can help.

I was forced to upgrade Firefox to 1.07 before I gould get the Adblock extension.

Then I went to Tools > Extensions > "Get More Extensions".
That brought up the Mozilla webpage and I selected Adblock from there.

I had to change the setting in my profile that allows pages to install software.

I think it said to close Firefox and reopen it to complete the install.
Then it was Tools > Adblock > List All Blockable Elements

and enter the line Alec mentioned earlier in this thread.

His best from the 70's I think...

80's you have ET and the Indiana Jones trilogy...

90's, Jurrasic Park, Schindler's list, Saving Private Ryan, Amistad...

Not to mention the recent Minority Report, Catch me if you can, War of the Worlds and The Terminal...

Hold on.

I'm meant to be on Rogert Eberts message board.

(I liked A.I. Teddy was awesome!)

Ummmm... I will gladly pay up to enjoy membership privledges. But just to be real straight, I won't pay to have ads turned off. That's just the manipulative kind of bull**** these internet pirates are generating.

To be honest I hope that's true. I LOVE this site, best message board I have used, and TJ deserves props for maintaining it. The fans make it what it is, but without TJ it wouldn't be anything, so if he makes a few pennies I can live with that.

We're not going to go pay to play. The boards will always be free. However, since switching to a dedicated server, I have a hefty bill that I have to get paid every 6 months, and so I have to get creative about getting it paid.

Users will always have free access to post on the boards, but I am creating a member class of site supporters who will be able to view the board with no ads, and participate in special contests to win prizes (ie. Personalized jerseys or something) and things that non-supporters wont get.

I'm in List All Blockable Elements, and trying to put "http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/* "
in the "New Filter" part, but when I type it in, it won't let me hit OK or press Enter...

(I'm not the most computer savvy, so cheers for trying to help, but when it comes to computers, I can be just that. Trying.)

I think Jaws, Private Ryan and Schindler's List stand far above the rest of his work. I consider Jaws one of the most influential movies of the last 30 years. I haven't seen WOTW yet, but I'm looking forward to the DVD. You're really padding out the list when you include disposable fluff like The Terminal.

I thought War of the Worlds was pretty weak. They put all their money in special effects and ignored the details when it came to the story.

Is there anything in Adblock > Preferences that looks like the culprit?
Is Adblock enabled?

well, i think quite a few people here are using amazon ... so ...

i dont know if amazon us offers this, but the german amazon is offering some sort of referrer program that pays the referrer a percentage of the money spent. all you have to do is sign up for it and put a link up. so, for example, when you go to the amazon homepage by clicking on that link and you buy a dvd, a game or whatever for 40 bucks the referrer gets 10% of that money ... could be worth checking out.

Jaws was filmed on Martha's Vineyard off Cape Cod, so it has a lot of local appeal to me.

I've even noticed things like the police wearing "OBPD" patches on their uniforms while directing traffic at the ferry. "Oak Bluffs" is the main place the ferries go to.

The Terminal was good for what it was. It didn't pretend to be anything other than an enjoyable romantic comedy. Spielberg proved he can handle any genre to me.
WOTW is his best since Minority Report.

You ARE right about Jaws, I don't appreciate it as I was born 5 years after it was made, thus I saw a lot of movies it influenced before seeing it, thus it didn't have the same impact, but you can still see it's influence today.
