Default Must be one heck of a system! lol

Love how they can't seem to give Dayne credit for any talent of his own. Do you think the New Yawkas are afraid of our ground game?

Broncos have Giants on the run

Denver’s ground game continues to dominate foes, regardless of who’s carrying the football

Ron Dayne will be back at Giants Stadium on Sunday with the Broncos. It will be a major upset if he touches the ball.

The Giants' former first-round bust is Denver's third running back behind the productive duo of Mike Anderson and Tatum Bell. Of course, with the way the Broncos churn out yardage with their backs, something tells us even Dayne could star in this scheme.

What is it with coach Mike Shanahan's offense that it can produce 100-yard rushers, from Terrell Davis to Olandis Gary to Clinton Portis to Reuben Droughns to the current tandem, at the drop of a helmet?

"Over the years they've had God knows how many running backs, and everybody's been very productive," Giants defensive end Michael Stra.han said yesterday.

"The reason is first of all, the running backs are talented, but secondly, the whole team and the offensive line are very well- coached. I think because of that these guys know that's how they're going to win games, by running, and they set their minds to it. We're going to have to have our minds set to the fact that we can't allow them to do that if we expect to win."

The Broncos (5-1), who have won five in a row, are the NFL's third-best rushing team at 153 yards per game. The Giants are 11th against the run, allowing 101 yards.

Much of the attention around the Giants this week has been about Tiki Barber's call for more rushing attempts. The buzzword has been "balance," something the Broncos seem to exemplify.

"They are utilizing all of their assets," Giants coach Tom Coughlin said. "They are running the ball well. They are setting up play-action."

Jake Plummer is averaging only 190 yards in the air, but he has been under control in his third season as Denver's starter. A turnover machine in the past -- 20 interceptions last season -- Plummer has only three picks in 2005.

"We're just playing good as a team," Plummer said. "Running the ball, we are very balanced. It's a quarterback's best friend to have a good running game."

The speedy Bell (5-11, 213 pounds) is Denver's leading rusher with 395 yards; the bruising Anderson (6 feet, 230) is right behind with 358. They offer contrasting styles, which can be hard for defenses to handle.

"That is part of the difficulty in preparation," Coughlin said. "Bell is a slasher with speed. Both backs are good, outstanding runners, obviously."

And the Broncos know how to block for the run. Even Dayne, who hasn't had a carry the last two weeks, was able to tiptoe through some holes in the one game he was a big part of, a 20-17 win over San Diego in Week 2.

Subbing for an injured Anderson, Dayne rushed eight times for 44 yards; on the Broncos' final drive, he carried seven times for 43 yards, including a 10-yard gain on fourth-and-1 to set up the winning field goal.

"Ron has really done a good job for us all the way through preseason and when he has played," Shanahan said. "He's a zone running back and we run in the zone scheme quite a bit. We think he fits into our system."

Must be one heck of a system.

Notes & quotes: LB Barrett Green (ankle) did not practice and is questionable. Three other Giants with ankle injuries -- LBs Carlos Emmons and Reggie Torbor and S Gibril Wilson -- returned to practice and also are listed as questionable.

I hope Dayne see's 10 carries this game. Or at least 5, former players do tend to play harder against former teams. I know the nay-sayers say 'why fix what aint broke' and i agree, but this is just one game and i think he could bust out some big runs.

*** His carries should come at the detriment of MA not Bell***

I never thought I'd say it, but I like the Running Back by Committee thing - at least the way we have used it so far this year.

Dr. Z has a pretty good column (did I just say that?) about the NFL's tendency to overuse backs. I am not going to post the whole thing here, but here's the link, for those interested: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/200...rbs/index.html.

We've just all unfortunately seen the negative results of a running back getting overused. If we keep using them as we have, it should only help us as we get late into the season.

I think you're right. I'd like to see him get at least a few touches - if for no other reason than to reward him for being a pretty good guy so far this year. He certainly hasn't done anything to deserve to be benched. There are just so many touches to go around, and MA and TB have been performing.

Shanahan likes to stick it to the other coach, wouldn't be surprise to see Dayne run wild this weekend. Just to prove that NY Giants were fool and didn't know how to use Dayne.

Dayne looks like much less of a bust in NY if you look at how good Tiki Barber reallly is...the guy is the most underated back in the NFL. He outgained Tomlinson last year in yards from scrimage by over 300, which is mind blowing. Funny how people bag on Dayne for not being able to live up to his college hype when he was competing for minutes with Barber.

The only disadvantage I can see to our RBBC is one guy doesn't get all the props in the press, and the individual stats suffer. So what - there's another big "W" being posted every week.

That only presents a big problem for the backs at contract time, but it appears to offer no problems for the team as a whole.

Bell was able to show up Portis. Maybe Dayne will be able to show up the Giants. That would be great...
