First of all, let me preface by saying this is just with my cheap digital camera stuck up to the lens of the telescope and snapped. I am waiting on my CCD imager to get here so I can take long exposure, very still photographs that will be extraordinary (nebula, the gas giants, galaxies, etc). Right now, all I could get was a few pics of the moon and I got one picture of the sun situated on a sunspot (though its fairly blurry). Anyway, on to the pictures.

This shot was the only one I took with my 25mm lens. All others were taken with my 10mm lens.(Telescope lenses, not camera lenses)

The sunspot didn't come out really well because I had to shrink the size of the image and there wasn't a lot of detail on the snapshot either. A far injustice from what I saw with my telescope
But nonetheless, here it is. |

Great stuff Alec... Keep em coming!
A question for you. What iso speed and apeture are you using on your camera? And which format are you taking the pictures? (.raw, jpg, tiff, bmp)

2 10" Meade schmidts (one GPS and one just auto) and a 6" refractor that is just on a plain equatorial mount. For anyone starting out keep in mind that what you see in the eyepiece will NOT look anything like what you see in the nice color photos that the manufacturer puts on the box.... almost all of the sky you see in a small telecope will look pretty much colorless, the exception being colored stars like Albireo. The Moon and planets are still very interesting....and a good small scope can still show you lots of things up there Nebula and galaxies will be gray. The Planets , except for Mars will look kind of like black and white (but white and grey). The reason is that the human eyes color receptors don't work very well in dark conditions. It takes a lot of light for the eye to show color in objects. And unless you get a telescope about 16" in diameter or longer the amount of color information is overwhelmed by the brighter White black receptors. Everybodies eyes are different, but its generally true. So how do you get to see the color .....take pictures. That opens up a whole different subject, and things start to get REALLY complicated if you let it .... Overall its fun and can lead to a whole spectrum of different things you'll learn from it. ![]() |
