Default Brunell Practiced Throwing Wet Football

According to an article in the local paper out here, Brunell practices throwing a wet football a couple of times a week. Gibbs instructs the team's equipment manager to soak several footballs in a bucket of water which Skins quarterbacks use for a portion of the passing drills. Gibbs got the idea watching Theisman throw for 500 yards v. USC when Gibbs was an asst.

If we don't do something like this we should with all the bad weather games in Denver. Can't argue with the results last week. Anyone know if that's something we do?

Totally agree, Gene. Brunell threw a much better wet ball then Jake did. IMO, that was why the game was as close as it was.

Elway could never throw a wet ball either wonder why something as simple as practicing with a wet ball never occurred to Denver coaches. Gibbs is amazing!

Brunell already had a ton of experience throwing wet balls in Jacksonville.

I've posted this several times, but doesn't anyone remember all of the monsoon home games, during their decent run from 96-2000.

Seems like they had a downpour every other home game.

Meanwhile, our team is a bunch of bubble boys....It used to be bad weather was our friend, now it's our bane. I can understand going into the bubble when it's horrible weather, but they should practice outside as much as possible. We play like a damn dome team when the weather is bad.

If memory serves me didn't Elway have smaller hands for a guy his size? Seems like that is what they said a lot when he struggled with a damp ball.

He was 6-10 at Arrowhead in his regular season career....somebody pissed their pants but I don't think it was the Chiefs.

If I remember it had something to do with the way his hands griped the laces, further back than most or something like that. Never heard the small hands thing.

To the contrary, Elway was noted for having exceptionally large and strong hands. His problem with throwing a wet ball was supposedly his excessively tight grip on the ball at release.

Whatever....typical spin...

Elway always had trouble throwing the ball in wet weather till late in his career...he would be so pumped up in his first SB's that the would throw balls right thru recievers hands...it was frustrating to say the least....

Only in his later years did he develop touch.
