Well I'll be damned, I don't think anyone saw this as a big time match-up back in the summer.
Penn State looked real damn good against Minnesota today, shut down Maroney and their offense really clicked as they got true freshman Derrick Williams the neceassry touches out there and he made some plays for the Nittany Lions. Primetime night game on ESPN in Happy Valley, Penn State welcomes the Big 10 favorite Ohio State Buckeyes into Beaver stadium which looks to be a match-up of exact clones, great defenses with offenses that need their playmakers to show up in order to be effective(Robinson/Williams for PSU, Ginn/Holmes/Smith for OSU.) This game could be 13-10 or 28-24 depending on who steps up on offense for each team. As a Buckeyes fan, this game worries me because Antonio Pittman finally had a breakthrough game last week against Iowa and our offense was awesome, Penn State shut down Lawrence Maroney which means that Pittman will have to be on his game in order for us to have an effective offense. 20-14 Ohio State wins is my prediction. |

Should be a good game. Penn State is trying to get back to what they used to be and a win here would validate that.

I am thinking we will see Justin Zwick at some point in this game. If the running game doesn't open up and allow Smith to do what he does then passing the ball out of the shotgun will be Tressel's answer. I don't think to many people will disagree with me by saying Zwick is the better passer of the two QB's. I think our experienced D will be plenty for the very young Penn St. offense, yeah they lit up Minn. last week but Minn.'s only tough game IMO was the Michigan game and right now they are the biggest mystery in the Big 10. Which Michigan team shows up on Sat's? I am not fearing Penn St. very much but then again I did not fear Northwestern last year. OSU-20 Penn St. 13

Michael Robinson and Penn State offense will be lucky to muster 9 points against the Buckeye defense. Buckeyes win in a low scoring defensive dogfight.

PSU 27
OSU 14 Just rember last season PSU's offense score more than OSU's, they only lost b/c of an interception return for a touchdown. That's not happening this game. The time before that PSU lost only because the refs called an incomplete pass (bounced on the ground) complete on 3rd and long. This time there's replay, so that mistake won't be made again. |

It's only Friday, and I am already getting amped for this game. First road game this year, I love winning on the road. It's the ultimate "up yours" Penn St. is running a option sometimes with their mobile QB, so the OSU D has seen that in practice and against Texas. We are just one step closer to the BIG-10 Championship!

West Virginia isn't our rival...it's Virginia....West Virginia is a border scuffle...and what does calling it "the best rivalry" mean? You're going to quantify the hate OSU has for Mich and compare it to the hate another team feels for their rival...big deal...doesn't change the fact the Mich is pretender just like Virginia year in and out with a spike every once and a while. |

![]() They are down this year, but the UM vs. OSU is absolutely huge with all the Big 10 and national titles that go on the line when these two teams play each other. How many conference and national titles has UVA vs. VT battled for? |

Not that many...but if you want to hang your hat on the bogus nature in which those "national championships" were awarded then go ahead. There is no true national champion in college football..and only in recent history have the number 1 and 2 teams actually met for the "title" based on some measure of objective data. In that time the Hokies have competed for one and OSU has won one. barely close once maybe twice for Mich. USC crushed OU last year.....OU killed Texas and didn't let them score a point....not even a field goal in a 12-0 beating...and Texas beat Mich....so there you go. |

I have all the hate in the world for Michigan, but I give them credit for being a competitive team that only loses 1-3 games a year and is always in the running for the Big 10 title(same with OSU.) As much as I'd like to call them a pretender every year(I will this year, they suck), I can't do it because they are a perennially strong team. |

One of these teams need to take control of this game. And wtf is penn state doing calling a screen to the short side of the field after a 10 yard penalty....dumb...they lost more yardage.

Gotta be happy for JoePa if you're not an OSU fan. I loved the crowd tonight in Happy Valley, from the incredible noise to the Texas A&M-like color coordination. For the Buckeyes, I think Ted Ginn Jr. has been a huge disappointment so far. It was another great week of college football. |

Congrats PSU, your D is great and took advantage of a RB that plays QB for us.
It was an even game, total yards was close, the PSU INT that was returned to the 1 was the clincher and the reason why overall Penn State won this game. SoCal has talked before about how Miami has a national championship calibur D that is wasted on an anemic offense, and I feel the same way now. Our D is the best in the country, but our offense is so inconsistent and the lack of an adequate QB is the reason why we won't play for a national title. Justin Zwick is not the answer, but neither is Troy Smith. I'm not sure what Troy Smith was around for last season during the Michigan game along with 2 weeks ago against Iowa, because he played a lot better in those 2 games than how good he actually is. The guy doesnt get rid of the ball, he looks to run first, and he doesnt have any touch on his passes, how we can't get a good QB with the WR's that we have is beyond me, I figured at least someone on this team can get the ball to Holmes, Ginn, Gonzalez, or Hall. Another wasted season with high hopes, another big chance to take control of the Big 10 blown, another season in which I'll have to sit around and hope that teams can lose in order to get into a BCS game. Congrats again PSU, you guys are for real and are back, you've proved it in this one and best of luck the rest of the season. |
