Default Rod Smith --- 1st Impression

here's my Rod Smith story, well i had just graduated high school (95) and my grandmother wanted to do something special for my graduation. She is a Redskins fan and it just so happens that Washington was playing Denver in Mile High that year so she got us some game tickets (they sucked last row in the stadium on the goal line across from the south stands) keep in mind we lived in Virginia so it was a big deal for me plus it was my first Broncos game in Denver.... well low and behold the game was AWESOME not to mention that after the half while Elway was warming up on the sideline I ran down to the fence behind the bench and there was a guy there with a little kid on his shoulders, well Elway finished warming up for the 2nd half and he come over to the kid and gave him the ball, I was freaking out because I grabbed Elway's forearm and was just in shock that I got to "touch" his arm... well anyways I ran all the way back up to the top of the stadium to my seat to watch the rest of the game and what a game it was... with seconds left on the clock Elway threw the game winning TD to Rod in the endzone, he out jumped Darrell Green and won the game, needless to say I was ecstatic, my grandmother was happy for me because it was a great game and Denver won in the last seconds, well we hung around the parking lot after the game getting autographs and talking to some of the players, (I was waiting for Elway to come out, he finally did but he drove out with Janet in the land crusier, I stood in front of his car and snapped some pictures) Rod came out and I got him to sign the ticket stub from that game, and I remember thinking who is this guy, he was nice but the whole time he was signing the autographs he was sniffing & wiping his nose like he had a cold (which I'm sure he did) but I remember thinking to myself this guy is a coke head and he wouldn't last long in Denver.... boy was I wrong, I've never been that glad to be wrong in my life.....

that was a great game. I was a Freshman at GMU and was the only Bronco fan in a Fraternity full of Skins fans (hey it's in VA) and I got **** the whole game. I shut up the boys for a whole week on that one......not having to hear how great the skins are = priceless...

rod smith is a great player AND he doesn't forget his fans. He signed a jersey for me at a Denver game a few years back.....and I noticed both he and Shannon Sharpe stayed the longest to sign autographs.

If I have to listen to Sonny's "highlights" of the game one more time, I am going to go postal......

"well Brunell is a warrior and kept attacking the Cowboys defense until he found a chink in the armour".....what a bunch of crap...

And that's uncalled for for Sonny to make a racist comment about Dat Nguyen.

When Rod retires, he will be very hard to replace. Not just his on field numbers, but his leadership, professionalism, and work ethic. I don't care much for Madden, but he was correct last night when he said that currently when you think of someone being the man for the Broncos, you think of Rod Smith.

Like Elway, Zimmerman, Davis, Atwater, and Sharpe, he will be sorely missed when he retires and those outside of Denver won't truly appreciate him until his gone.
