Game notes and Shanny news conf
**"I was really pleased with the effort of our football team," said Head Coach Mike Shanahan. "Offensively, going into the game, we felt we had to establish the run. At least run the ball a little more consistently than what we have been doing, very similar to what we did in the preseason. The same thing defensively; we felt (Kansas City) was a heck of a team running the football and they have been very consistent over the last few years. I was really pleased with the effort we gave getting to the football, which is something you have to do against a team like Kansas City."
**Jake Plummer finished his night completing 13 of 18 passes for 152 yards, one touchdown and a rating of 116.
**Rod Smith caught seven passes for 80 yards, a long of 21 and a touchdown. His 19-yard reception early in the 3rd quarter put him over the 10,000 career receiving yards mark, making him the 24th player in NFL history to do so. He is the first undrafted player to ever accomplish this feat. He also made his 100th reception on Monday Night Football and leads all active players in this category.
**Mike Anderson carried the ball 20 times and gained 98 yards with a long of 44, which was a touchdown, and an average of 4.9 yards-per-gain.
**Todd Sauerbrun punted once for 55 yards.
**Darrent Williams had 10 tackles to lead the team, nine were solo.
**Ebenezer Ekuban and Gerard Warren each recorded a sack.
**Ian Gold forced a fumble and it was recovered by Courtney Brown.
**Denver had 24 first downs to Kansas City's 18.
**The Broncos racked up 358 yards of total offense to the Chiefs' 185.
**Denver had 221 rushing yards to the Chiefs 74 and 137 passing yards to the Chiefs 211.
**The Broncos were 2-8 on third down conversions, 25 percent, while Kansas City was 4-15, 27 percent.
**Each team converted all of their fourth-down opportunities. Denver was 1-1 and Kansas City was 4-4.
**The Broncos were disciplined, only getting called for four penalties for 30 yards compared to the 13 infractions Kansas City was whistled for, losing 118 yards.
**Time of possession was very close with the Broncos holding a 16 second edge, 30:08 to 29:52.
**Denver is now either 2-1 or 3-0 after three games under Mike Shanahan for the 10th time in 11 seasons; the lone exception was an 0-3 start in 1999.
**The Chiefs now lead the all-time series 50-40. Denver leads 28-18 at home, including 5-0 at INVESCO Field at Mile High.
**This was the seventh win by Denver in the series of 20 or more points (Kansas City has 16; only five since 1973; all of Denver's since 1978). The largest margin of victory by the Broncos is 27, coming in 1996 in Denver by a 34-7 score.
