Who is your favorite tight end in the league right now?
Stephen Alexander Jeb Putzier. I’m being honest about that. He may have the best hands of any tight end I’ve ever seen. The guy’s just a natural receiver. I think he’s really come a long way in the run game and he’s going to be a great player to watch. When I’m retired and old and walking around with a cane, it’s going to be exciting to sit on the couch and watch him play Although Nate Jackson has been injured, how do you think he will adjust to the transition from wide receiver to tight end? Stephen Alexander I think he’ll do well. He really studies the game, he watches a lot of film, he really pays attention in meetings and he works hard. He’s worked extremely hard this entire offseason, trying to gain a little bit of weight and some strength. Unfortunately he’s had a little hamstring trouble and those things just take a little while. He’s getting back in action, though, and starting to feel better. I think he’ll be a great tight end because he wants to be on the field. He’s a definite playmaker. You can’t shy away from that. Every time he’s out there, he makes plays, and that’s the name of the game. You have to go out when you have the opportunity and make plays, and that’s what he’s done. Look for good things from Nate Jackson. What do you think of Wesley Duke? Stephen Alexander Awesome. He’s a funny kid. He’s unbelievably talented. I mean, the guy can do anything he puts his mind to. To not play any college football and to come here and do what he’s done in the pros so far; I know he has a long way to go, but he’s definitely taken the right steps to get there. He’s just a quiet kid who wants to learn. He’s like a sponge. I mean, anything you tell him, he just soaks it all in. I think he can definitely be the next Antonio Gates. He has that kind of talent. What areas do the Broncos need to be concerned with when playing the Chiefs? Stephen Alexander They’re a good football team. They made a lot of changes this year defensively in the offseason. They have a lot of playmakers over there. I think their secondary is a whole lot stronger. They’re not giving up as many big plays this year. We just have to grind it out. I think the single most important thing for us to do is get the run game going. I think that’s the one thing that makes this offense tick. The pass game is all predicated on the play action stuff and getting Jake (Plummer) on the edge, so if we can take care of them up front and get things going with the ground game, I think everything will take care of itself. I think we have a lot of playmakers in this offense. You saw during the preseason we moved the ball up and down the field. Unfortunately the last couple of weeks we’ve struggled a little bit. But last week we were able to do enough to get the win and that’s the most important thing. What I got from this article is that we are rich in Talent at the TE position and seems to me its up to Brewster and the players to make it work. Can't help but wonder if Stephen's doing a little psych job on his competitors like a wily old vet will...Putz has the best hands he's ever seen? Duke's the next Gates?
...yea I think these guys have potential but let's tap the brake a bit here...Alexander=John Mackey... ![]() Last edited by footstepsfrom#27; 09-24-2005 at 06:22 AM.. |

That was a good read. I agree with him about Nate Jackson. His one play in the preseason was a converting of a third down.

If Alexander stops screwing up he will be a nice interim TE. He's been injured. I like our TE's of the future. We beef them up a bit and go double TE against the 3/4. If we can get them to man up on the edges without being totally burned, it's hard to overload on a blitz. If they don't blitz, he goes into the pattern. Putz, Jackson and Gates are all basically big WR's. Well, Gates is a BB player, but you get what I mean.
I really agree what Alexander said about Putz's hands. I haven't seen him drop nearly as many balls as the Claw. |
