Default Mother Nature at her finest

This can be moved, but something happend today while I was collecting myself after allmost falling off a ladder.

It was a cloudy, cumilous day, with peeks of sun and puffy clouds...I took a break and looked to the sky...I saw a flock of geese floating...not one was swinging their wings...the leader was looking for a safe landing strip evidently...I have resident Wrens, and they flew up to investigate, but couldn't get enough altitude to really check it out...they flew back home...they probably think they chased the geese off...might of been ducks, they were so far up in the gulf stream it had to be 20k feet. So they are circling and kinda just circle to the south and are obviously ready to land, there are plenty of lakes in NW Iowa still pretty quiet unless you wake up Homer Fudd, and I look again, and an Golden Eagle/Bald Eagle is following them...it was impossible to tell what it was he was so far up there..just a dot...He was so freaking up there he was going in and out of clouds, and obviously following the flock of geese! He had to be at 25,000 feet. There must of been alot of updraft, because none of them were flapping, and my wrens (They are not pretty but can sing sing sing and are funny to watch)...must of reached their operational ceiling. Then the wrens came back home to my trees, and I looked again...Butterflys were migrating...I guess they have a fightpath here too. Monarch and others...yellow ones...so they are at another level....then one came too close to the ground and Beezlebub was ready to pounce just for amusement. I didn't even have any mosquitos this year. They must of flooded because it was a wet year.

It was just so weird to see flying critters from thousands of miles up down to ground level holding their turf. That eagle didn't flap his wings once, but just soared along on the jet stream...or something...He was a tiny dot and wasn't part of the goose pack.

And mosquito bit me...I killed the bastard.

I walked outside the other day and there were probably 10 or 12 eagles circling over head. I couldn't tell what type they were... they were probably 2-3,000 feet up. Close enough that I could hear them screech/sqwk'n. I tried to find my binoculars but couldn't... even chased them down in the car for a little bit hoping that they would fly down after a field rat (chipmunk ) and I could snap a picture. No dice though. Mother Nature is awesome!!!

Rep for this thread!

I went to a local state park last weekend and got about 1-2 feet from 4 different armadillos who were nosing for grubs along a path in the woods.

I encountered a hawk on the trail who sat about 2 feet above my head on an old dead tree branch. I stopped and looked at him and he surveyed me intently. I took in the up-close view of that beautiful bird for a moment and strolled on away from his perch. He watched me walk on by and made no gestures showing fear or the presence of a threat. Nature is great.

I also saw 5 doe in an area of about 30 square yards. They were a little more skittish, but made no bones about my presence in their space either.

Well considering there isn't much meat on them, you do it very carefully. Normally my father in law will do the cooking with the goose.

Basically, we have a friend that gets over 1000 of them on his lake every year. He has been told that these geese are over fertilizing his lake and killing his fish so we go out there and kill what we can during the season. It's fun to knock them out of the air with my 12 guage.

seemed like the Eagle was hanging in the clouds waiting for a strangler Goose. It was wild to see him so high he was literally a dot in and out of the clouds. 25K is no doubt rediculous, but he was way way up there...Just a speck looking down on the flock of geese or ducks, they looked more like geese. It was more than 2k off ground for sure.

OrangeForceOne/Omane bus meets Bobs tailgating vehicle. This really was a chief tailgating vehicle. An old guy owned it. We talked to him and asked him what the deal with the ride was. He said "Oh I found it on Ebay". Some chief fan sold his pride and joy.

I bet someone from the planet would know who sold out. rofl

I was biking along the river and I saw a Blue Huron fly down the river off to my left. He was making time, but scouring the river for food.

I sat on the bank of a small lake and watched two Bald Eagles dip down from way up, snapping fish in their talons and then rising up to the sky again.

I saw a large flock of vultures drifting lazily in the sky above the "Natural" Park along the river. I kept moving.

I saw a Red Fox sitting in the tall grass with just his ears sticking up while he watched me biking by. I called to him with a quiet sound, and he rose up to get a better look.

I saw a Red Fox that had been killed on the road near the river.

I saw a Raccoon on my porch while he attacked my tomatoes, and he screeched, hissed and ran off when he saw me.

I saw a doe on my back yard looking for the apples off my tree. The doe had one young fawn with her. Later, I saw the buck walking along the gravel rode in back of my house, watching closely for signs of my neighbor's dog.

Northern Colorado has it's appeal. The Rocky Mountain West is like a different world. peace can be found, but you have to appreciate life and you have to want to protect it. Money is not the medium of exchange in this world.

Coons are mean, Skunks are meaner, Wolverines are mini-me bears. All three are everything a tomcat with full armor can handle.
