I was listening to the "herd" on ESPN radio and the guy predicted that the bottom would fall out on Denver this year and SHanny would come under extreme scrutiney. Hell, Denver was 10-6 last year and people rip Shanny I would hate to see it if Denver was 6-10.

I lost a lot of respect for marino last year when he said he would quit inside the nfl if the broncos beat the colts while he made his playoff picks.

I have no problem with that. He is still tight with many in the organization and everybody knows it is a homer take. Just protecting himself on the homefront.

Collin Cowherd used to be the sports reporter on one of the TV stations here in Portland. He gravitated to the Fan radio station and got his rep there. His take usually is wrong. He is a milder form of Jim Rome and gets his jollies by trying to be "controversial" with his statements. He said Seattle would implode last year and that the coach would lose his job there too.

VERY accurate........(NOT)

Agreed. If we ever arent competitive and have a losing record, i wonder what ppl will say.

I mean we cant win the SB every year, but we are always competitive and make the playoffs, and still get nothing.

But thats fine with me, this underdog role this season is great!!

I believe Allen picked the Rams to be in the superbowl as well. He is a joke.

Has nothing to do with that. It is just not professional because he likes to be all up on mannings balls. Make your pick and shut up. He expects his clone manning to do great things in this league that he could never accomplish.

On Monday morning quarterback you can see the pain that Eric Allen gets when he has to talk about the Broncos. There are 3 guys that I truly believe hate the broncos.
1)Salisbury
2)Allen
3)Randy Cross

Miami was 10-6 in 2003. in 2004 they finished 4-12.

same thing happened to Tampa and the Raiders after their respective SuperBowl appearances.

it is not out of this realm to suspect a team to fall apart. Now, whether his judgement of your team in that light was warranted or not... that's purely speculation. it is not crazy to suggest that, however.

and of course Marino is going to pick the phins against the broncos. This matchup (above all others) is probably the one he will most homer about... remember the Elway/Marino friendly feud. I think Marino has to weigh his professional commentator career versus legions and twenty years of fanbase.... i mean seriously. What would YOU guys say if Elway picked the Fins? Sometimes, homer picks are warranted.

I'm surprised no one picked Houston. I think they could win that one.

that was more of a dispay of his confidence in his decision than a slam against the broncos. I mean.... Did you beat the Colts in the playoffs?

you know, before last year the dolphins hadn't had a losing season since 1988, and for a great span there had been a perennial playoff team. yet we always seemed to get slighted in matchups and almost never favored. I think every team has a feeling of this - any teams who sit between 9-7 and 10-6 are the ones that feel it the most... they are always on the cusp, and the next year could go either way.

It's a heck of a lot easier to pick a team that is traditionall in the 11-14 win area (Indy, NE, Philly, etc...) as winners than it is marginal playoff teams like you, NYJ, BUF, etc...

and whoever was talking about Sean Salisbury... i'm convinced this guy isn't even a football fan.

I think that will be a good game. Buffalo is one of my least-favorite teams, but i think they can pull that one out. As long as Losman doesn't give the game to the Texans, there is no reason why Buffalo shouldn't win. Buffalo has one of the better defenses in the league, and Houson's offense isn't exaclty "potent".

Houston's D has improved (apparently), so this game might just come down to who makes the most mistakes. I don't think exceeding talent will win this game for either team.

I know it shouldn't have a place in the media, but I like that some of the former players hold on to their rivalries. It kind of shows that it goes beyond the game, and that when these guys played they were all about thier own team and really hated the opposition. If I was Eric Allen, I would always pick the Raiders over the Broncos (which he does), even if it's just for good luck. If Marino wants to pick against Denver or Buffalo, that's cool. These guys don't have any effect on the outcome of the games anymore, at least with some homer/hatred they are more entertaining.

I agree, i usually like all ex- football players, but salsbury just pisses me off. He is annyoing and everything he has an opinion on is idiotic and dumb. OR its just regurgutated crap that someone else has already said.

I think the Houston O can at times be Dynamic Carr, Andrea and Dominick (poor mans Faulk) cn be a nice three headed monster. If DD can control his fumbles and Carr get decent protection they will be a top 10 O.

great post.

When Jim Kelly picks the Bills to beat the phins, i am not upset. In fact that is expected. If he picked the fins i'd almost be pissed off that he sold his guys out!

See, I like Davis and I like Carr. I think they can put up some points. Their O-line is kind of thin, though. Buffalo is good on defense, but I have trouble believing their Quarterback is going to help them out in any way. I could see teams putting 8 in the box to slow up their rushing attack and a mediocre passing attack doing them in.
