BRONCOS REACH INJURY SETTLEMENT WITH DE NWOKORIE

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — The Denver Broncos on Thursday released defensive end Chukie Nwokorie (CHOO-kee wah-KOR-ee) after reaching an injury settlement with the player, Head Coach Mike Shanahan announced.

Nwokorie was placed on the reserve/injured list by the Broncos on Tuesday with a left leg injury. The sixth-year defensive end was signed by Denver to a future contract on Jan. 19.

That explains why the put him on IR in the first place. I couldn't figure out why they would want to keep him. They just put him on until the settlement was hammered out. Makes sense now.

I don't know who this guy is...can't keep em all straight...the Settlement means he is cut & any other team can claim him right? not sure why they would not leave him on IR all season unless it was career ending or he sucked.

If he was on IR all season they would need to pay him a full year's salary. Settlement is a buy out to just get him off the books now rather than later at a fraction of the cost.
