Default krieger article

i dont have a link to it, but it was a decent article in this mornings paper.

he wont go as far as to say the national media (and some local!!) is retarded (i wish someone would), but he does question whats being said about this team.
its about time someone did.
it wouldve been nice if he took a stand, but at least he's questioning the blather we're hearing.

anyway, if anyone does have a link its worth reading.

I liked the premise of the article, but he didn't really take a position. Having heard him over the past few months on various talk shows (IRV & Joe, FSRM, etc...) I think he is probably in my camp; this team is moving sideways. They make some good moves, some bad moves. Splash in a quality owner and top notch coaching and you wind up with an above average team. They aren't going to drop to the 20th team in this league, but they aren't likely to get a top 4 seed in the playoffs either. So in summary, they are the same team they have been the past six years.

he doesnt take a stand which is mildly annoying, but kudo's to him for at least QUESTIONING the simple (and generally ridiculous) logic used by most so called "experts".

thanks for the link by the way

I knew I shouldnt have read that article.

Whatever articles are posted here, I always find that little or no information is garnered that hasnt been discussed here in depth and far better detail amongst members.

We might just be the best football community in the world.

We have at least one certified genius on the board (me).

We have at least 20 guys and gals that could write circles around even the best "sports analyst" getting paid to do it.

And, the best part of all, we can put the ****ing idiots on ignore.

He does bring up a good point when he says that the Browncos have replaced the players on the depth chart (at least for now) who led the team to a number 4 defense last year. That means, at least in Larry and Shanny's eyes, these guys are better. Ergo, logic dictates that the defense should be better than #4 this season. Darrent Williams is proving to be a pleasant surprise (and fast as hell), and we haven't even seen Champ, who is being saved like a secret weapon. He says he could play tonight - Shanny says no. Whatever your opinion about Ian Gold, this crew of LBs looks like one of the best in the league. All in all, I'm guessing this D moves up to the number 1 or 2 slot.

I think the national media passes on the Broncos because the Broncos have no marketable stars and the national sports media is nothing but entertainment (look how they kiss TO's ass every time he blinks). No, the Broncos are a small little organization out West with no stars, not much in the way of an aerial attack, etc. etc. etc. They're just not sexy. Which has absolutely nothing to do with how many games they're going to win.

Like Al Wilson said yesterday, "We've got to get it done on the ground." This team will come out of the gate pounding the ball on the ground, and punishing the opposition on D and STs. It's Shanny's same old thing. It ain't sexy, it's old timey, and it works.

My prediction: Four weeks from now, nobody in the NFL is going to want to play this team - Mile High, or anywhere else.

it didnt have ALOT of content, and like i said, he didnt take a stance, but i just liked that he actually said "who cares?" about clarrett.
in the national media, it seems that because we drafted clarrett and signed rice we'll be bad.
well, that and the browns linemen.
mind you, they dont look at how these players have been in preseason and camp, they dont look deeper to see that cleveland in fact was very GOOD on the line last year but had a TERRIBLE backfield.
they dont look at the fact that BESIDES rice we have a pretty decent receiving corps, which should also benefit from extra experience (watts and lelie) and the addition of alexander at tight end.
they JUST look at the surface and make a lame conclusion that we'll be in last place. whatever.
...and why?
because the raiders signed moss? ONE big name guy.
have they looked at the raiders defense?
nope, they just like the big name guy. ignorant fools.
LOTS of orange and blue humble pie will be eaten at the end of the season.

What has been amusing me is they have acted like we sold the farm for these free agents. Hayward, who I told everyone was grossly overrated, has been completely invisible in Jax. Kenoy can woo lick and get in some cheap shots, but was getting fined. He was overpaid as well. Herndon was grossly overpaid. Fergy is a better cover safety. All 3 of the new corners are going to make the team, unlike possibly LeSuer and Shoate. Plus we get Washington's #1 and saved enough money to sign Pryce. It's literally amusing.

Clarett was the LAST day one pick,101. It's not like Denver hasn't missed with other picks. Then you add in the fact we were about 2 million under the cap and managed all these moves. Other than Gold, who has been flying around despite Slappy hating him and loving the bust Pierce, none of the players got big bonus money. Burns made more plays than Pierce last night, which is pretty sad. So did Predator. Pierce seems discouraged and ready to move on. I smell a trade here, maybe for an OL.

Here is one comment I found amusing:

"The last time the Broncos paid any attention to the offense was when they signed Jake Plummer."

That's baloney. Denver has spent alot of effort on Defense because we have has a series of serious busts on D dating back to Eric Brown and finishing with LeSuer. MiddleBrooks, Deltha, Toviessi have come and gone along with IHOP and some pretty pathetic other FA busts like Pittman.

Denver has paid less attention to the offense, but still has brought in Foster, Watts, Plummer, Q, Bell and Meyers this year, along with Alexander at TE and Ron Dayne. It's absurd to say the offense has been totally neglected. What about Putz? Now alot of these moves are not recent, we spent 3 top picks on corners, but after losing Herndon, Kenoy, Middlebrooks, Deltha, and LeSuer and Shoate weak, and Lynch looking rather like a Model T, the moves look more and more like the right ones.

With alot of teams going multiple WR and the FB becoming a part time worker, you need alot of secondary, especially if you have been drafting turds. I'm not sure LeSuer will even make it, and Shoate is almost surely history.

I'm cautiously optimistic. The moves on defense look like they're panning out even if Brown doesn't stay healthy. But I need to see them stay in the race down the stretch and not fade like they have the last several years after a hot start. I'm beginning to wonder if our small O-Line wearing down has something to do with this. On the other hand, we were small in '97-98 too...
