Sticking up for your team and getting so pissed that you start making ridiculous bets about national championships are two entirely different things.

Why is it ridiculous? Its all in good fun. I didn't mean it to be any other way either. I just don't think NU will be down as long as other people think. If I lose big deal.

While we looked pretty lackluster most the game, I can see us making some improvement over the next couple weeks. Truth be told, if we can get to the level of being just decent then we'll win at least 7 games. Our schedule is freakin easy. Only four road games, 2 of which should be easy wins (KU, Baylor) and the other two very winnable (Mizzou, Buffs). The only really good teams we play at home are Pitt (who got doubled up by ND), Texas Tech, and Oklahoma (which suddenly looks like a very winnable game).

Sure this is analysis after one week, but I'm not about to panic about our performance against Maine.

Pezman - I'm interested to hear some insight on the game too, since I was unable to watch it. Evenrude? DBroncos?
I got all the information about the game secondhand since I was on the road on Saturday. But looking at the drives charts for the game, it seems like the hopes of spreading the offense worked to an extent for Nebraska. But, I'm still in the dark to the actual performance live.

TBS is broadcasting the NU game this week so I'll TiVo it and get a chance to see how they look.

My bro said that Hardy dropped 2 passes at the 3 or 5 that should have been for a TD. I know that Ross fumbled inside the 20 as well. It wasn't pretty but they have time to gel.

I was at the game on Saturday.... my observations.

First of all the weather was horrible. It was 96 degrees at kickoff and as humid of a day as I can remember... not that that had an influence on the game but it did on me after pounding several Budweisers before the game. I also noticed a lot of cramps..... for both teams.

The Special Teams looked good. NU was near the bottom last year in yards per return, but you could tell they had spent a lot of time working on it and they almost took one to the house. Cogdon looked very good for a freshman K starting his first game. The only black spot on this squad was the missed extra point. GRADE: B+

The Offense reminded me somewhat of Denvers last year. The moved the ball well but seemed to self destruct in the red zone. Cory Ross ran tentitivly and never seemed to get his rhythm. Taylor did some good things, but looked indecisive in the pocket at times. The recieving core had several drops some of which were very costly. The two bright spots were Taylors touch on the deep ball and Marlon Lucky, who always seemed to fall forward for positive yardage. GRADE: D+

The Defense looked dominant throughout the game. The D-line has some horses up front. That is the deepest, most talented part of the team. The LBs looked good especially Corey McKeon who looks like a faster version of Barrett Rudd. The secondary was solid, but lacks depth. The lone Maine TD came on a play when both starting CBs were out of the game with cramps.... if they lose one or two of the top 3 CBs that secondary will be swiss cheese. GRADE: A-

No, actually you need to mention it 2 or 3 more times to maintain your level of ass-hatery. Or you could buck the trend and actually have a football discussion....... your call.

Yep, since I never talk college football on this board...

Just a quick question though, isn't the schedule a part of a football discussion, or is it not that big of a deal in college? I mean, it only determines who plays who, who really needs that in a football discussion?

And you have to give me a little credit for the trolling though, I basically made 20 bucks or more in a gimme bet, that's talent right there.

MU was the only ones to whack their ****ty opponent like they should have.

KSU would have blown FIU out of the water had we have not

A) Fumbled on a punt return
B) Allowed a punt block

Bleh. Defense looked good. Offense looked good (Hollywood Clayton 177 yards on 17 carries, 2 TD's). Kickers looked good.

Sounds like the kitties had some of the same problems we did. Hopefully the north won't be as pathetic this year, but I don't see any team in the north coming close to texas.

We go back too far to get in more of a pissing contest on this.....

Nobody will argue that Nebraska has a weak schedule this year. Pittsburgh was a top 15 team when the series with them was set up. Since 2000 Nebraska has played Pittsburgh, Penn St., Notre Dame, TCU, Southern Miss and Arizona St....... not necessarilly top 10 teams, but most are traditionally strong. Nebraska also has a series starting next season with USC.

My only beef was you bringing it up there schedule repeatedly when it really had nothing at all to do with the discussion at hand. We read what you had to say the first time....... and the second..... by the third time it was rediculous IMO.

Hey... as I've said before I will be an Ohio St. fan next week.... and I wouldn't do that for any other Big 12 team but Texas.

Sounds good man, we do go back too far for this ****...

Good luck to you guys this year, I hate NU because of them being a top team along with OSU and wanted them to suck, now I kinda miss you guys being a top 10 team.

Maybe in a few years both NU and OSU will meet for a natrional title, then me and DBroncos4life bet can mean a lot more.

The one time I get to root for Notre Dame is coming up this Saturday, you'll probably say the same for Texas.

Hey Denfan, is Painesville the "P-ville" that Bone thugs use to rap about?

Hmmm....I wouldn't be surprised if it was, I;m not a big Bone Thugs/Rap fan so I'm not sure but I'm unaware of any other P-Ville in the suburbs of Cleveland, plus I know that one of the guys(Bizzy Bone?) does have friends/family in the Argonne Arms projects here in Painesville.

So not sure exactly, but I would assume yes it is.

Yeah I'm not much of a fan either, but on the few songs I've heard they always say thuggin' in P-ville and stuff like that.

As far as I'm concerned, old history means jack and you are only as strong as your previous year. Anyone can speculate this early how good or bad a team will be and seem a genius at this stage. I say, bring it to the field and then we'll see just how good we all are, otherwise, we all run the risk of turning this into a meaninless flamewar over former glory.
As a Chief fan, can I assume that the same philosophy applies when you trot out your 2 SB trophys won 8-7 years ago? And in the same vein as Nebraska winning national championships in 94-95-97.

Rude, I got the pay per view of the game last Saturday. I thought the most dissapointing aspect of the game was the offensive line. I don't know where their heads were at? They just looked like they were going thru the motions. And damn near got Taylor killed a couple of plays. I thought Taylor actually played pretty well for his first game. Especially well in the 1st half where he was 12/15 and 150 yrds or so. It looked like he started to freelance somewhat the 2nd half. Because on replays they showed receivers that were open that he didn't see. Some of it caused because Maine constantly was blitzing every down. The offensive line couldn't ****ing block anyone, run or pass because they weren't mentally prepared to play. They went in with a preseason attitude. Which hopefully got the **** kicked out of them at practice this week. But back to Taylor. Plus the fact he had about 6-7 balls that were prefectly thrown and were flat out dropped by the receivers. To be fair Leflore and Fluellen weren't playing. Nunn shouldn't drop any like that. Hardy played with him last yr in JC. The Blackshirts were nothing short of awesome. Granted it was Maine but Maine couldn't do jack all day(145 total yrds). Plus 12 sacks. I don't care who you are, or play, 12 sacks is pretty impressive!!. It was sad to see Octavian go down. He looked like a beast. But at least he'll be back for 2 more years. I'm sure he's going to medical hardship this year. I don't know what was up with the run game or lack thereof. It was sad to watch. Which brings us back to the main cause of Nebraska's unimpressive showing. Nebraska's Oline. Callahan better light a bonfire under their collective asses this week.
Bottom line Nebraska beats Wake Forrest this week by 21.
Blackshirts continue to be impressive. Top 10 defense this year.
Offense?? Work in progress still.

Hold on a sec, did you just type top 10 D?? Come on, take the red and white glasses off for just a minute. You played MAINE, not Florida. I would hope the D looked good against 1aa team. You have got to admit that's a huge Homer take, especially after how bad the D was last year and you lost, what, three starters to the NFL? Improved? Probably but top ten? Get real.
