The sports director emailed back stating that it was an interesting idea that he was going to run by the powers-that-be.

Regardless of their action on this, we need to get this idea going. Being a huge Steeler fan, I can vouch for towel waving. The Terrible Towel is famous! Let's make the Blackshirt Towel as famous in college football. This is a grassroots effort that has to start somewhere. Let's help the guys over at BRB kick this thing off....and lets try to get it started at the ISU game.

This defense has seemingly improved incredibly over the past year. The blackshirts name is something known all over the country. Nebraska's tradition of excellence has been build upon a foundation of defensive excellence. How amazing would be be to see 77,000 fans waving black towels and screaming like maniacs whenever the blackshirts take the field.

If you agree, bring a black towel to the game next Saturday. Tell your friends, family, etc., to do the same.

Let's to start a tradition that could be massive!

We all know and love the RED OUT....let's kick off the BLACK OUT!

I don't know how well this is going over but it sounds like a cool thing.
That would be tough as hell!!!

As of right now Nebraska is favored by three to beat #23 ranked Iowa State.

I think we lose this game by 3 to 6 points. I haven't seen enough out of our O to think otherwise.

I don't honestly know what to expect, I don't think it will be a blow out, as our d has been pretty decent of late.

Suprised you did not get put on ignore for that

If you are a Husker fan you can say he's a lousy coach, but if a fan from an opposing team says that.......look out.......you get some over sensitive husker fan cursing you out.

honestly I think the Skers beat the Cyclowns this weekend, and the Husker nation will be thumping there chests pretty good. I was not impressed by the clowns performance against Army and Iowa appears to be a big time pretender.

I'm telling you, the ISU-Army game was a fluke. The division is ISU's to lose, and they won't do it. I could see them going 6-2 in conference if not 7-1. They got great draws for the south. Plus, all of their hard games are at home.

Could be but I am not sold. Their run game stinks right now and will continue to until Hicks gets back. I am not impressed by ISU at all.

I'm not really impressed by any Big XII North team right now. I just think ISU has the easiest path.

Let's not give up on him yet. Remember last year he was trying to play his scheme with Solich's players, which just didn't work out. Now he has the players he wants/needs and they are very young and inexperienced.

Let's see how he does towards the end of the year, and then next year.

Lets see how the Blackskirts do when they face a halfway competent offense. I'm still not sold on this "Top 10" defense yet.

I agree, we need to really have this defense tested. I'm cautiously optimistic about it though.

100% COTTEN: Red Carpet Treatment
by Stan Cotten

Sept. 11, 2005

The Nebraska game sure wasn't much fun. Losing never is. But never in my life, well 26 years of it anyway, have I ventured into enemy territory and been treated anywhere close to as well as I was in Lincoln, Nebraska. From my where I sat that was the nicest, most sportsmanlike group I'd ever encountered.

Nebraska football has some great traditions. I wonder if the Red Carpet Treatment for opponents is one of them. It sure didn't feel like it suddenly happened that the Huskers decided they would be courteous to a visiting group. Rather it seemed as if this was inside of them. And had been.

It was their way of life.

The Wake Forest-Nebraska game was sold out at Memorial Stadium. It was the 270th straight time (an NCAA record) that all of the tickets had been gobbled up to make the gathering the third largest city in Nebraska on game day. Those folks in red sure do love their football. And their opponents, too.

I quit counting the times that the locals went out of their way to extend a hand and a warm greeting. When asked about a good spot for a bite to eat, Wesley the bellhop, an Army National Guard Reservesman just back from boot camp in Ft. Jackson, South Carolina, not only had several suggestions, but he offered to take us wherever we wanted to go. You could see in his eyes that he wasn't doing this out of duty. It was his pleasure. The ride was just a few blocks, but we tipped the kid five bucks. It seemed right.

Clent Gentry, Josh Nixon and I went in search of a good local spot for breakfast on Saturday morning. While walking down the street, an elderly gentleman approached us and asked if we were looking for a good breakfast spot. How did he know? He sent us off to Kuhl's just around the corner. Stella, the owner, seated us in a booth just like she had no doubt thousands of others before us in over 35 years of business. I couldn't finish my pancakes and eggs. And for once my per diem covered the tab - plus tip! Now that's a breakfast.

On the way back to the hotel we passed several people who could tell we "weren't from around there." Smiles and "have a great day!" flowed freely. Even from a scalper. Do they treat the Sooners this way? Something tells me they do. And mean it.

The stadium wasn't that far from The Cornhusker Hotel, so Josh and I walked to the game. Was everybody in Lincoln really this happy? They sure seemed to be, and maybe when you never lose at home it's easy to be that way. But I actually had envisioned Wake Forest winning a close game, the Husker fans leaving in disbelief that a team from a basketball conference could have actually come into Memorial Stadium and beaten their beloved Big Red - and those same fans patting us on the backs after the game for a job well-done and bidding us to come again, real soon. I honestly think that would have happened had the score been reversed.

The Cornhusker faithful cheered the Deacons as they ran onto the field, and the Nebraska band welcomed their opponents with the Wake Forest fight song. If only the Husker team had been so accommodating. But Bill Callahan's team did what it was supposed to try to do. Win. And the fans did their part, too.

Do you think they knew something we didn't?
Great story DB... thanks for posting.

We met up with some Pitt guys after the game at the Embassy Suites post game party (the closest beer after the game ) They pretty much repeated what was in this article. One of them said, "Man, we keep waiting for someone to talk some smack after the loss up here, but instead all you people do is pat us on the back and say good game..... what the **** is wrong with you people?"

It's unfortunate that some have had bad experiences in Lincoln (Big Guy maybe?) when there are so many great and hospitable fans.

Anyways, I'm going to watch this one on TV. I spend too much money when I go to Lincoln on gameday I'm going to the Texas Tech game next week..... if we win only one more game all year I want it to be that one.

I'm still pro-Callahan and think the "O" will get things turned around. I couldn't care less what the media or fair weather fans have to say about it.... when they start clicking I will be handing out "I told you so"s liberally.

It'll be ok because we can counter with the picture of you dancing in downtown Lincoln this winter Boy George.
