Default Brett Favre Annoys the Hell out of Me.

This guy is an attention whore. First he comes out with the "I'm addicted to pain killers" gig a couple of years ago and the media eats the hell out of it. Then for the past five years there is the drama on whether he is going to retire and plays it up like a seasoned pro. Why doesn't he just come out and say, "Yes, I am going to play next season, lets move on." No, it goes on all summer, his mother gets involved, his wife gets involved and the ongoing drama keeps living.

Now, not only did we have to live with the "is going to come back this season or not" storyline, he jumps in and throws Jevon Walker under the bus when he is dealing with management. That is like your co-worker at fred's dollar stores trying to get a raise from company headquarters and your fellow co-worker -- albiet he is the head cashier and has been working there for 17 years -- comes out publicly and says, "No, Eddie doesn't deserve a raise. I hope they don't give it to him." Who does that kind of sh*t?

And remember when he gave Strahan the sack record by calling a play at the end of game that was a bootleg that ran straight into Strahan? His offensive tackle, who shut down Strahan the whole game, wouldn't even speak to him after the game. He could not believe that Favre through him under the bus like that. Can you imagine the locker room leading up to the game and all his offensive line teammates telling that offensive tackle that he better not let Strahan get the sack record on him and HE DOES IT because he had pride, and then your QB gives him the sack? Great leader. Now that guy will be on every single NFL Film greatest moments and he really did shut Strahan down. Thats like a wide reciever catching a ball and then throwing to Dieon Sanders so he can set the NFL's all time INT record? You think Brett would be happy about that?

What about him publicly stating that he doesn't have to "mentor" Aaron Rodgers and nothing in his CONTRACT says he has to do that? What about helping the team Brett? Then in the interview he speaks in third person and says, "Aaron Rodgers can't do what Brett Favre does." He is really selfish.

FURTHERMORE, all this slap happy bs about talking smack with opposing defensive lineman and slapping them on the ass after they make a sack on him. Or trying to act tough and talking smack with opposing defensive lineman. Where was Favre when his buddy Warren Sapp knocked the living crap out of his offensive lineman Chad Clifton on a borderline legal play? No where to be found and he let his coach do the deed with Sapp. He is fake as hell, because I know at Southern Miss he didn't do any of that crap.

And finally, I hope he doesn't break the duke's record for wins.

That was horrible, but I lost a lot of respect for Strahan by accepting the record that way. There should be an asterisk next to Strahan's name and the sack record until it's LEGITIMATELY won...

favre modeled his game after elway, plays with the same vigor, always shows up on time every game and practice and never complains about money, and he's a great example of toughness and grit.....

......and you make some REALLY compelling points here.

i guess i never really thought about all those combined issues you mentioned.

i LIKED that he spoke out about jevon walker and honoring the contract you signed, but youre right that alot of the things all combined dont really wash.
only other comment with regards to walker is you must remember that favre didnt say "he doesnt deserve a raise", he just said "everyone should honor the contracts they signed."
asking for a raise is fine, but DEMANDING one and THREATENTING to get one is a different issue, and frankly i think it needs to stop.
personally, i think its great that at least one PLAYER in the league has the balls to speak out and say he doesnt agree with it.
on the other hand though i must MYSELF admit that it is alot easier for a brett favre (who has already made MILLIONS) to say that since he's so far into his career.
regardless, holding out and demanding a contract renegotiate is not the right way to do it, and i respect that he spoke out against it.

as for the other points you make, again, i think its some very valid points.
i had forgot the strahan incident, but that bothered me alot when it happened and it does again when you mention it. fact is, that guy was on the OTHER team, and taking a sack is chicken**** to your OWN team and fans.
i also agree about the retirement issue.
elway did it his last year, but ONLY his last year, and elway was also 38.
favre really has milked that.

still, you do have to respect the mans toughness and desire to win.

Agreed on the Strahan issue and not wanting him to break the all-time wins record. I disagree on everything else, though. I like him. It's hard to fault the guy for being enthusiastic.

I hadn't heard the Aaron Rodgers thing.

I am sure he would rather the painkiller thing never got out.

I seem to remember the speculation about Elway coming back about every summer, too - starting in '91 when his issues with Reeves got ugly.

Anyway, everyone has an opinion, I guess.

All those points are true yes....but somehow Farve doesn't make my skin crawl like say Manning does.

I really can't explain why I'm so indifferent towards Farve.....but I am.

And by the way - what about John Elway?

Spoiled baby wouldn't play where he was drafted. He apparently thought he was too big for the system that had been around since long before he was born.

Then he goes and can't win a big game until he finally gets a Hall of Fame caliber running back to help him win it.

Then he runs the winningest coach in franchise history out of town.

And who didn't get sick of all that crap with his divorce? Why can't he just keep that kind of stuff to himself? I don't want to hear about it.

And when he finally wins a Super Bowl, it's all about, "This ones for John!" What about everyone else on the team?

All that is basically true, and yet he is, by far, my favorite player of all time. I guess it's all in a person's perspective.

I really didnt like how he let Strahan get the sack record. I dont mind him that much but the media does kiss his butt.

I love the intensity he plays w/, but he is irritating at times.

I think one of the only reasons Favre is still playing is to surpass Elway's pass yardage total. And, that pisses me off.

The Packers stink. They are not a good team, yet Favre keeps playing because he "wants to win another championship...."

BS

He wants more records, period.

Do anybody know of a site where one could see the play where Favre gave Strahan the sack and the record?

I really like how Strahan was nice enought o let Strahan get the record, but this is football, not niceball, i would absolutely be pissed if i was the OL who Favre made step aside.

Plus the painkiller story isnt the last time hes made this jump for media attention, also just a few days ago a story "leaked" where he might not have ever played caz of a bad hip. Yet another story of him trying to grab attention.

Any yet on top of it all, i still have the utmost respect for favre and really like him.

It wasn't as BS as most people claim HTB... he rolled out and Strahan was right there... he went down rather than taking a hit. Was it an easy sack for Strahan...yes. Did Favre "give" it to him... not in a million years!

Favre is one of my favorite players of all time. If he says that he doesn't have to mentor Rodgers does that mean he's not going to? Is he lying when he says that Rodgers can't do the things that he can do?... NOPE! Champ Bailey refers to himself in the 3rd person...as do many professional athletes. The guy has overcome more than most. The obstacles in his life have been fierce and often and if you think he wanted people to constantly ask him about his wife's cancer, his father's death, and the ATV accident that killed his bro-in-law on his property...at every turn... you're crazy! Like Slap, I consider myself lucky to have watched him perform!

And now for the rest of our days, we have to hear about him playing with a bad hip and how much he loves the game. Blah blah blah

They were talking about the mentoring thing during the MNF game and brought up Elway not mentoring Maddox when he was in Denver either. I guess Maddox made some comments about it or something.....

IMO, no big deal.

Take your Favre homer glasses off for one second will ya. Did you see the play? It was at the end of the game and Strahan does not have a sack. Favre calls a ROLLOUT, a ROLLOUT TOWARDS MICHAEL STRAHAN, the LEAGUE'S MOST DOMINANT DEFENSIVE END, and virtually gives him the sack AFTER his OT held him sackless the WHOLE GAME. And did you see the two after the game Hugging and laughing towards the players tunnel? Then he lies about it after the game and says he audibled, when the game was out of reach, for a bootleg towards Strahan. What? Please, use your common sense here.

Favre hasn't gotten it done in the playoff is a big way the last several years but despite that he is my kind of guy. And I certianly don't see him as a media/attention hound. I stuggled with him during the years that Madden couldn't get Favres nuts off his chin but once that stopped I was able to judge him without bias and like the guy. Never liked the Packers but Favre is a guy I can't but help like and respect.

Jeezus...there are a hundred flavor clowns out there and Favre disgusts you? He's not an attention whore at all. He can't help it if Madden dreams of licking the sweat off his balls. Favre has never said he was a poster child. The media made him one. He's just a good ole boy Cajun from Louisiana, not Einstein.

You are way off in your comparisons here. I didn't see Elway doing 20/20 about his divorce like Favre did with pain killers episode. I never saw Elway openly state that he wished a teammate not get his contract redone. I never saw Elway give up a sack to an opposing teams player and show up his offensive lineman.

You are comparing apples and oranges here. You are WAAYY off in comparisons.

I think he laid down, too. It was probably a spur of the moment decision and a really stupid one, but I'm sure he never expected the uproar. The entire Packer Oline was pissed off afterwards, but, being Olinemen, they pretty much swallowed it.

The funny part is sacks didn't become official NFL stats until 1982, so this is basically the most bull**** record in the book anyway.

Deacon Jones not only coined the term sack, but he racked up 26 in 1967 and 24 more in 1968. The Rams used to pay him by the sack and George Allen kept detailed statistics on everything.

I like this part from an interview Shyster did with him last January:

Quote:
Adam Schefter: Your New Year's resolution?

Deacon Jones: The same as my New Year's resolution every year has been. I'd like to kill all the quarterbacks in the NFL. That has been my New Year's resolution every year since 1961.
I guess Tagliafag would have to ban this guy for life if he tried to play today.

I think his consecutive game streak ends this year. That rebuilt Oline is going to get him jacked up.

Just showed it tonight on Quite Frankly. Favre laid down, no doubt about it. Strahan almost admitted as much but said he was taking it anyway.

Smart enough to see what was happening to that franchise..excellent foresight!!

Typical ignorant remark usually slobbered by a raider fan or such.

Then he runs the winningest coach in franchise history out of town.
Again, excellent foresight!!!! One of the smartest QBs of all time!!!

He never really said a word about it. so you didn't hear about it from him.

They agreed, This ones for John!!!!!!!!!!!

Everybody knows Jack Elway made the call on the Baltimore thing. John took the heat, but that was dad's decision all the way.
