Default NFL Channel Update

As some of you know I was "informed" that Dishnetwork was going to "probebly" add the channel soon. I did get a response from them to an email I had sent. It does not look good. I will be checking on directtv today.

Dear Mr. *****,

Thank you for your email. Specific information regarding your request for NFL Network is not currently available. We would like to add that channel, to make viewers like you happy, but we do not know if or when this will happen. We will gladly forward your request to our Programming Department for further consideration.

We thank you for your input as we continually review our options in order to provide a compelling lineup for our viewers. Please stay tuned for consumer Charlie Chats that are broadcast monthly on Channel 101 or logon to our website for future programming announcements.

After that discussion that took place I did some of my own research and found a few topics on some message boards, does not say much more than you have already informed us of but interesting nonetheless.

It basically says they have uplinked the NFL Network to channel 154 on Dish Network, nowhere does it say whether or not they are just testing or if it was to become a live channel.

You guys probably did not see it, but Carl Icahn, one of the major investors in TW wants to dump the cable business. That could be OK or very bad for you guys in TW territory depending upon who buys it.

Wish Bill Gates would buy it. Then there'd only be the one choice, so we wouldn't have so much to complain about cause we wouldn't know there was anything better. There's a sex analogy there, but I don't want to think about it. I can start drinking again in an hour, too.

why doesn't the NFL adopt what MLB did and sell the games over the internet? They own the rights first and foremost and it is in their best interest to keep the game in front of the fans. MLB was reasonably priced (although I couldn't legitmate spending the money to watch my Royals play the equivalent of AA ball) and I would kill for the chance to have every bronco game at my finger tips - even when traveling.

Just to temper this view a little bit:

My parents live out in the sticks w/ no cable or the ability to pick up their local (95 miles away and over two mountain ranges) broadcast stations. Up until this past summer they had subscribed to DirecTV since 1994 and purchased the season pass (or ticket?) package. No problems up until this past season when they suddenly started blacking out the games that the "local" station was broadcasting which of course was always the Broncos games. Even though Directv acknowledged the fact that my parents could not actually receive their local stations, by letting them purchase the network feeds out of NY and LA, DirecTV refused to air the Broncos game because their computer put my parents in the "local" market.

It was pure BS and as such my parents have switched to Dish and satellite supplied local station.

As for me, I'm getting Dish set up on WED since they finally picked up the "Local" Casper stations. If Dish picks up NFL Network that would be a GIANT bonus. I'm sick of being on Bible Cable aka Bresnan Comm.

Ok heres the scoop Im getting. Dishnetwork uplinked the NFL Channel so everyone figured oh goodie here it comes. Not so fast it now appears they did so inorder to beam the signal up north to our Canadian friends. Thats the last straw this subscriber is moveing to directv. The uplink the channel so a the damn Canadians can watch football yet we cant see it.

Why would they blackout the Bronco games when they are all sellouts?

The NFL makes more money selling the broadcasts to the networks. The networks pay a boat load of money. The only way it would workout for the networks is if it was the networks broadcast over the net. Then they'd get their ratings. But then Directv, which pays a boat load of money, would be pissed. Their Sunday Ticket wouldn't sell as much.

Because the local over the air Broadcast station was airing the Broncos games, so they would not air the game on the Sunday Ticket Package.

Blame that one on the contract with the NFL. Your folks could have accomplished the same thing by adding the local channels to DirectTV, then they could get the games, but not the extras, on the local boradcast.

I'm shelling out for year 3 of Sunday Ticket but they don't make it easy. If Broncs are on local network broadcast (St. Louis) they black it out on the Ticket, but if early game is running over I get nada. That does not lead to me teaching the kids any new bad words....ever.
