Default Tatum Bell has value, NOW!

To most of you this will probably sound senile and idiotic but Tatum Bell has the most trade value of any of the Denver runningbacks right now. Correct me if I'm wrong but besides Clarett, he's the youngest of the tailback bunch. Denver probably could get at least a 3rd or maybe 2nd round pick for him. The RB class next year is better than decent according to scouts and with the staple of backs that Denver has, high quality can come from a trade involving Tatum Bell. Denver will get nothing for Griffin, next to nothing for Ron Dayne and of course Clarett is signed for five years. Mike Anderson seems to be on a mission to prove that he can still be effective as the starter and he has absolutely no trade value being based on his age 32. This team needs defensive depth on the line and a future replacement for Rod Smith. Rice is not going to be around that long which means the time is now to start looking at the long term future of the team at the skill positions. I would love to see Ron Dayne succeed in Denver with Mike Anderson having a solid year as well. Clarett should get a few touches(running and receiving) during the season and Griffin hasn't proven he can handle a pounding even as a third down back.

We already have an extra 1st rounder next year. There will be plenty of room to move around the draft board and get what we need next year. Just thought I owed your long post abit more of an answer

The only part of this guy's post I agree with is the "replacement for Rod Smith". However, I seem to remember you saying that some of the young receivers were looking decent.

We invested a 2nd rounder in him. What would be the point of trading him for a 3rd or 2nd when he is probably our most talented back and will be more valuable to us on the field? Sorry, I don't see the logic here.

How amusing. Rice won't be around that long? He might not be here next week. He's got a foot injury and is on the fringes of reps. True, he probably doesn't need many, he was under Shanahan's scheme and terminology in Frisco, but I wouldn't say he's even going to make it. I think Shanny is very loyal, but if he's got a bad foot, he's not going to make the roster.

We have 17 DL. We need depth on the line?

Ever see a post where you dissagree with every single thing someone says? It's almost that moment of clarity when you reckognize the nature of the mind.

Rod quit football? He died? He suddenly can't play several more years unaided by the older Jerry Rice?

I hope he does play a few more years. All I'm saying is that the thought of who was going to be the eventual replacement is a logical one, given his age.

Hey, when were the grizzled vets ever known to scare off newbies? I remember when the official site named us first overall for the year. We had a whole crop of newbies that we terrified for about a month till they crawled back to homer central.

That's assuming a) that we need the pick and b) that we want to unload Tater. I doubt either are true. Just because he has the most value doesn't mean we trade just for the sake of doing so. We'd be lucky to get a 3rd anyway, because he hasn't shown a whole lot to anyone but us and has a reputation of fragility. And then look who that leaves us with - Dayne, who we are hopeful can work out with us but nevertheless WAS a bust for the Giants, Mo, who is rusty and squishy, and Q. Love the guy, but he's not a #1. Just because we want one to work out doesn't mean any will.

And since when do we need DL depth? We're drowning in DL depth at the moment - the ones that are keepers will be kept around next year. We do need another high quality reciever, but we're going into next year with two first rounders. If, hypothetically speaking, we get a 2nd, do we really want to try and sign 4 high round picks plus extend Warren and/or Brown?

Aren't Warren and Brown both injured now?

Warren's I thought wasn't a big deal. Tweaked a hammy the same as Champ and someone else I'm forgetting. Brown will hopefully be OK in a while, but he's the reason for the "or" in my "and/or".

I'm more worried about Champ's hammy than Warrens by far. We know what Champ brings to the table. Rest it, treat it, and let Darrent Williams get trial by fire this week. I'm pretty sure he's got brass balls and will take everything in stride. MoC is another matter entirely. I'm starting to wonder about his intestinal fortitude, and there's more to it than the paunchy beer belly he carried into camp. Brown will be back in at most three weeks and have a brace.
