Hey guys I don't know if any of you were listening today, but around 5:30 central time here, I called in and was on the Drive at 5 with B Cox and Chris Meyers. They were talking about the AFC West and were talking about the offensive firepower that KC, Faiders have and how complete the Chargers are going to be..blahblah bulls**. They were basically regurgitating all the crap that the media spits out. So I called in, and surprisingly got in, and got to express my thoughts on the Broncs. B Cox predicted the Broncos to lose to Miami the first week (are you serious) claiming that the humidity it too much for them to handle, and his thoughts were the Broncos would be lucky to be 8-8. I was pumped (nervous as hell) to get on the air, and basically said that with that the Broncos will be sporting the Best D in the Afc West (if khans camp reports are correct about this turnover crazy D). Of course B-Cox countered that the why the Broncos think they can turn the Browns garbage into gold. And I countered that we have arguably the best LBS in the game with Wilson, DJ, and Gold. " Gold, Shoot, all he is, is a special teams demon.” says B-Cox. Meyers asked me what I predicted the Broncos to be, and I said I think we should be 10-6, and Bcox said , "man you crazy, with Jake Plummer you never know how you gonna be." So that was the gist of the call, it was pretty short, but still cool. They don't have much love for the broncos, but I did my best to represent.

I assume that is Fox Sports's (and formerly ESPN's) Chris Myers and not our very own Chris Myers.

I think its funny how big of gomers most of the media guys really are. The majority of them don't predict anything legitimate. They are such bandwagon reporters its ridiculous.

Whatever. I get tired of hearing these tired hand puppets and their predictions. Honestly, there are more educated people writing on some of these forum boards then these former athletes turned talking heads.
B. Cox has no credibility. If he can't speak English without slang and THIS is what he is doing for a living... well thats just sad. |

I listen to NFL Radio on Sirius Satellite Radio pretty much all day long, and this is a common theme regurgitated by all the hosts.
The AFC West will be the most competitive division, the Chiefs will be unstoppable and they will run away with the division, some of the hosts think the Chargers are a lock for the wild card, others point out the fact that they were like 2-4 against playoff teams last year and play alot more playoff teams this year. Which leaves the Broncos and the Raiders to fight for the cellar, and with the offense that the Raiders have they will probably be in the hunt for the sixth playoff spot. And the only way the Broncos stand a chance of getting the #6 spot in the playoffs is if Plummer puts up Marino and Manning #'s ![]() It's ridiculous how these guys, who get paid to talk about the NFL, can't think for themselves. They read that the Broncos let Hayward, Kennedy and Herndon go and then sign Gold and bring in the Browns DL and immediately come to the conclusion that the Broncos didn't improve, and are therefore going to have a worse record than last year. I can't wait to hear what they have to say when we clinch homefield advantage in week 15! Last edited by GoHAM; 08-04-2005 at 08:49 PM.. |

B Cox was on the local radio today(guest) & talked about Dan Marino for 10 mins. The radio stations down here are nutting all over Marino(hof induction). He talked about the two toughest qb's he faced & it was Marino & Elway. The talk was about Marino, but you could tell it was Elway who was the toughest QB he played against.

I wouldn't hand Denver a playoff spot, but losing Hayward, Kennedy and Herndon?
I don't know who thinks Herndon was a draft choice, I believe he was a free agent. Kennedy couldn't cover a Sloth, and Hayward padded stats against a 3rd string LT in constant passing situations. Losing three players would be below average for many teams. |

Lets see. 1. Plummer is not stellar. Ok, your right here. 2. You lost your best pass rusher. Nope. Trevor Pryce is our best pass rusher. 3. Signed Ron Dayne. How's this relevant to anything? The Chiefs bring in camp fodder all the time, does that mean if I cite their names, it somehow detracts on other things? 4. Drafted Maurice. Maurice will be a very good NFL RB. 5. Lost your starting safety. Okay, Kenoy got better this last year, although there is not a significant difference between him and Fergy. Thats not homerism, its based on Fergy's past performances in 2003. 6. Lost starting corner. Kelly Herndon was the starter only because Lenny Walls was not healthy last year. He is a fine nickel corner though, but its deceptive to say he was our starter even though he started a number of games. 7. Gold was a good move. Nope, Gold was the worst move.

Not for nothin'.... but Cox does have a point about opening in Miami. There really, truly is a homefield advantage for Miami in the first couple of games of the season, when the weather is still scorching hot and the humidity is somewhere around one hundred billion percent. Look at their home record over the first 3 or 4 games of each season and it's absolutely undeniable. Saying that it doesn't exist would be like saying that the air at Invesco is no thinner than any other stadium.
Everything else is pretty much his speculation versus yours... but he's dead on about the humidity being a huge factor in Miami that early in the season. |

the Humidity was so blanket near Destin/Pensacola, it was unbearable. You couldn't get to your car from Wal-Mart without breaking into a full blown sweat. I would literally start the car to get the AC cranking before I unloaded the bags. It's literally unbelievablely humid. And hot like 91. It was the 90 percent humidity that was unreal.
Humidity isn't so bad during Spring Break in Panama City, or even South Beach, but in the summer, it's rediculous...worse than Vegas. Vegas can be an oven, but it isn't humid. |

NO TEAM in the AFCW is going to lose to the Dolphins.
I can't think of a single team in the AFC that I think will suck anywhere near as bad... |

East New England 11-5 Buffalo 9-7 New York 8-8 Miami 6-10 South Indianapolis 12-4 Jacksonville 9-7 Houston 8-8 Tennessee 5-11/4-12 North Baltimore 11-5 Pittsburgh 10-6 Cincinnati 8-8 Cleveland 3-13 West Kansas City 10-6 Denver 9-7 Oakland 9-7 San Diego 8-8 And I dont mean to imply the Chargers are going to "come down to earth" this year either. I think they will be just as good as any of the other 3 clubs in the division, if not better, but their schedule is the most killer. Really, the smallest things are going to seperate the division champ from the cellar dweller this year in the West, IMO.

Talking with my friends & associates around the country, I find pretty much the same impression you'ree hearing from the talk show people on the national radio shows.
Truth be told, on the surface, it appears Denver embraced nearly the entirety of one of the worst defenses in the NFL. It would seem that some believe that a losing standard will follow...but the impressions are changing some...and will even more as we approach the regular season. I know Fox Sports has changed it's tune after visiting Camp & conducting a few interviews & inquiries. ESPN will follow...John Clayton has been battling the NFL Live crew for while now on their assessment of Denver & the Broncos' chances. For one...the real analysts are finding many of Denver's troubles in close games last year came down to field position...& our punters & Special Teams in general failed us miserably last year. That won't be the case this year, at least, from the kicking department. For another...especially the Cleveland press...is writing that the Browncos will benefit greatly...more than anyone will know until the real games are played...from great Linebacking. The Brownie LB's simply sucked & the secondary wasn't a hell of lot better. Finally, my California friends recognize that if Denver can field a top five offense with Rueben Droughns at feature back...ANYTHING new & improved could be explosive by comparison. Talking to coaches & writers/broadcasters so far...I see Denver relying much more on it's TE's in the passing game this year...kind of like '95-'96 as Shnanon Sharpe carried a big load while Rod Smith/Ed McCafferey developed into real threats over the next three seasons. The defense...as many are quickly coming to realize...is going to be special. |

Great take, Wabbit.
Hearing that Courtney dislocated his elbow was discouraging today, although our new found depth at DE seems to be working. Kaylore observed a heck of a day's effort from DE John Engelberger. The thing that excites me the most about John is that not only he is a high motor guy, but also because he came off a year where he had 4 forced fumbles, a number which he has replicated before. I think the LB crew will help out the line. I have made my distaste for Ian Gold pretty clear but im hoping he can give us 6 sacks or so in the pass rush dept as was the case in 02. Even with Brown being out a few weeks, I am feeling good about the line. On defense it really comes down to Lenny Walls health to me. I feel good about Big Money, he has been giving good effort per Kaylore and Trevor has looked great. Obviously I have no concerns about Big Al and our Silent Assasin. The two safeties lack of speed might be a problem but im not too worried about that.

Hows that phrase go...close a door, open a window.
Well, window is open for Engleberger...who knows. Remember when Rob Bernstine went down in camp in '95 & a young, 6th round draft choice named Terrell Davis had to start taking snaps with the first team ...or maybe the time that Drew Bledoe suffered a horrorific chest injury forcing 6th round draft choice Tom Brady into the starting line-up in New England. Things happens...& sometimes they happen in a good way. By the way, I talked to a couple beat reporters on good terms with the Bronco trainers...Courtney's elbow dislocation is pretty bad...probably some muscus tears. Good news is that he can continue to train & stay in shape. Bad news is that a full recovery isn't likely until the first week, or first couple of weeks into the regular season. |
