Predicted to hit Mississippi and Alabama right now. They also think that it's going to keep intensifying as it moves towards us.

Hurricane Dennis Steams Toward Jamaica

LES CAYES, Haiti - Hurricane Dennis dumped heavy rain on Haiti and strengthened Thursday as it spun toward Jamaica. Hurricane warnings also were posted in Cuba, including at the
U.S. Navy base at Guantanamo Bay, and forecasters said the storm could strike the United States anywhere from Florida to Louisiana.

Rivers burst out of their banks in dangerously deforested Haiti, where gusts uprooted a palm tree and flung it into a mud hut, injuring two people who were hospitalized in southern Les Cayes town.

Dennis, which reached hurricane status Wednesday, grew into a Category 2 hurricane and was on track to hit Jamaica later Thursday, forecasters said.

It was the second storm to threaten petroleum output in the Gulf of Mexico. Tropical Storm Cindy made landfall late Tuesday in Louisiana and hindered oil production and refining. Traders said uncertainty over both storms helped to push oil prices to new highs.

By Thursday morning, Dennis's sustained wind reached nearly 105 mph with higher gusts, the U.S.
National Weather Service said. The storm, the first hurricane of the Atlantic season, could dump 20 inches of rain over mountains in its path, including Jamaica's coffee-producing Blue Mountains, forecasters said.

Tropical storm force winds from Dennis's outer bands reached eastern Jamaica. "Regardless of landfall, Jamaica will have impacts ... practically all day and into the evening hours," warned forecaster Dave Roberts of the
National Hurricane Center in Miami.

Last year, hurricanes Frances, Ivan and Jeanne tore through the Caribbean with a collective ferocity not seen in many years, causing hundreds of deaths and billions of dollars in damages.

I've been praying for some rain on my corn in SE Arkansas, remarkably, I only caught the trailing edge of this last little bugger, only .14 inch. It's the leading edge of these things that get the huge rain. Needless to say, I'm nervous as hell about this new storm flattening my corn. I need the rain, but not 100 MPH winds and 20 inches of rain. It will weaken, but it's only 300 miles north of New Orleans. In Iowa, a friend with a Trac-tor helped finally plant beans, (we had insurance and had to wait to plant) and even a Trac-tor blew a turbo. Thank God the motor didn't get the shrapnel. Throwing a new blower on the thing is easy, a new engine is a big deal. These trac-tors are 150k. Since the trac-tor was lent by a friend, I'm praying no metal blew thru the turbo into the heads. Now I get to hope for some more rain but not too much and that the whole corn crop isn't flattened in the Arkansas delta. Farming is almost like Nascar. Just slower. This next storm might blow the corn into mud. These fancy John Deere Trac-tors (they are kinda like tanks, they have bands so they are able to drive thru anything), well, we managed to get one sunk. The idiot should of cooled off till we got another trac-tor to pull him out. So he overheated the blower. You know how boneheaded Germans are. He was probably hitting the thing with a pointed helmut. It's all handled. I am very worried about this coming storm.

Its coming right at me...Pensacola hasn't even recovered from Ivan and another one is coming. There are still houses with blue roofs...I'm getting Plywood, Water, food, and batteries today.

Did you guys get through this OK? Apparently Dennis damaged BP's Thunder Horse 6 billion dollar rig in the Gulf. It's listing 30 degrees. Was due to come online later this year producing 250,000 barrels a day.

And now here comes a record 5th Tropical storm (Emily) for this early in the year, heading for the Gulf.
