Multiple blasts paralyse London

Firefighters aid an injured passenger at Aldgate station
Large numbers of casualties have been reported after at least six explosions on the Underground network and a double-decker bus in London.
Scotland Yard confirmed one of several reports of explosions on buses in the city - in Tavistock Place - but said the cause was not yet known.

UK Home Secretary Charles Clarke said several explosions in central London had caused "terrible injuries".

All Tube services and bus services in central London have been suspended.

"The health services are in support to deal with the terrible injuries that there have been," Clarke told reporters outside Downing Street.

Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Ian Blair said there had been at least six explosions, but said the picture was still "very confused".

Scotland Yard said explosions have been reported at Edgware Road, King's Cross, Liverpool Street, Russell Square, Aldgate East and Moorgate.

Number 10 said it was "still unsure" whether the explosions were a terrorist attack and although casualties were reported, no further details were yet available.

Prime Minister Tony Blair is to make a live televised statement on the explosions in London at 1200 BST, Downing Street added.

All London Underground services have been suspended indefinitely and bus services in central London (Zone One) have been halted.

A spokesman for Vodafone said emergency services were being given priority access to the mobile phone network which was causing problems for other users.

One caller to BBC Five said his friend had seen "the bus ripped open like a can of sardines and bodies everywhere".
British Transport Police said incidents took place at Aldgate, Edgware Road, King's Cross, Old Street and Russell Square stations.

. . .
"As I walked through the bus station I could see people lying on the ground, black, as if they'd been covered in smoke. There were about three or four people on the floor being treated."

This is ****ing disgusting.

So far, authorities have no idea who's behind this crap but with the G8 summit in Scotland and London securing the Olympic bid for 2012 just last night it has to be some crackpot terrorist organization.

Apalling. My prayers go out to the people injured and the many families who've lost fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters and children because of some spineless coward's idea of revenge.

Six different explosions in densely populated parts of London! Six. As if one wasn't enough to send whatever ****ed up message some a$$hole wanted to send to the world. Simply apalling. I know friends and family who reside in London but that's besides the point. Godamn all those hippie bastards who keep protesting against the war on terror if this is the work of a terrorist organization like Al Quaeda.

London is no stranger to bombings, but God bless them...and prayers to the people caught up in it. I also hope our English brothers and sisters are okay.

Anger to follow.

Have never protested the war against terrorists, specifically Al Queda. I wish they had gone after them. Unfortunately we went to Iraq, where they weren't until we went there. My prayers go to the people in London.

As I said on the other thread - Murderers are murderers regardless of thier motives. They need to be hunted down like rabid dogs and eliminated from society.

If there is one city in the world that can handle a war-mongering attack on its people, its London. Right now, the casualty list is two, that is what I'm hearing on the news. This attack rings of Al Q. and it sounds like it was coordinated to happen during the G 8 summit.

The war is still on, and an attack like this brings it closer to home.

They will be, I have no doubt....I only hope they are nabbed before they hit Italy and Denmark with the same attacks that went down in London (they said, according to the story I'm hearing, that they're next).

There were teams of police around here at all the T Stations this morning. Didn't know why until I heard the news on the radio. Scary stuff.

40 reported dead now and 194 injured, I'm sure the amounts to grow.

One has to wonder how much this has to do with them just getting the Olympics. They will do anything to stop nations from getting together for even a brief moment of peace.

On another board I visit two British posters say there were 7 explosions, hundreds of casualties and at least one bomb that didn't explode.
All transportation systems here in the U.S. have been put on higher alert status.
If you're going to fly somewhere you are advised to get there at least another hour earlier on top of the usual early arrival recommendations.

Maybe...I doubt it though. I think this has more to do with world leaders being there. As far as I'm concerned this is a direct attack on our country as well. Our President is there too.
