The Titans, meanwhile, probably have no choice but to sit back and wait. They remain interested in trading for Travis Henry, but the Bills now know there's another team in Jacksonville that might need him more — and might be willing to give up the third-round pick they want. "In a month it certainly could impact things," Titans General Manager Floyd Reese said. "It sounds like (Taylor) just started (testing his knee) and they are going to wait and see where he ends up. "I think in Buffalo's situation, they can certainly wait and see what happens there, too. They have a fall back, which would be us, and now it is a matter of getting something else."

The longer Ty Law remains unsigned, the better the chances are for the Green Bay Packers to obtain the perennial All-Pro cornerback. Law has negotiated with a handful of teams this off-season, but is seeking a multi-million-dollar contract, despite the fact that he is coming off of foot surgery. So far, he has come up empty-handed, and that's good for the Packers. Law says the Jaguars, Jets, Dolphins, Chiefs and Colts also have expressed an interest in signing him.

Another player being shopped in the trade market is Seattle running back Shaun Alexander, but he's looking for a contract that would probably include a signing bonus in the $15-$18 million range.

Despite the accolades, Peyton Manning has yet to lead the Colts to the Super Bowl, a goal that has driven him throughout his career and will continue to drive him as the 2005 season approaches. "That's our goal [to get to the Super Bowl]. I think we have a great opportunity this year," Manning said Thursday while in town for a charity golf event. "We have everyone back from last year, hopefully we'll be even better."

With the Aug. 1 training-camp reporting date for Eagles veterans now less than a month away, there is no change in Terrell Owens' contract situation. There also is no truth to the recent rumor that he might be traded to the Oakland Raiders for wide receiver Jerry Porter. "Everybody has asked me about the trade rumor with Oakland, and that's obviously not accurate," Rosenhaus said. "Terrell has said he's receptive to the idea of playing for another team, but I do not have permission to seek a trade at this time. "I've talked to the Eagles. I'm not going to get into who I've talked to, but their position hasn't changed, and neither has ours."

The NFL's supplemental draft is scheduled for July 14, and there's at least one player the Titans have an eye on. The Titans already have a pretty good idea about Southern California defensive tackle Manuel Wright because of offensive coordinator Norm Chow's days with him. Another player who the Titans might like more, however, is UNLV cornerback Charles Ealy, who recently lost his college eligibility.

The Jacksonville Jaguars gave the city a $10.2 million check Thursday night to pay for some improvements made to Alltel Stadium in 2002, but it was almost $3 million less than city officials were expecting.

He’s 34 and far removed from the buzz of sports radio, but Ashley Ambrose won a unanimous vote last week when he worked out in Kansas City. And that was good enough for the Chiefs. Ambrose agreed to terms of a one-year contract Friday, filling a much-needed hole in the secondary and seemingly ending any chance of the Chiefs acquiring pricey free agent Ty Law.

Did You Know? Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning already has established himself as the premier quarterback in the National Football League. Two consecutive league MVP awards, six consecutive seasons of more than 4,000 yards passing, five Pro Bowl appearances and a record season of 49 touchdowns in 2004 has the former University of Tennessee All-American on a first-class flight to Canton, Ohio, -- site of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

The Rams have shut down their message board on the official team Web site. To much flaming?

Eagles WR Terrell Owens has a full-sized indoor basketball court at his home in Lithonia, Ga., he played varsity basketball at Tennessee-Chattanooga and played in five games for Adirondack, of the USBL in 2002, while still with the 49ers.

GM Rich McKay believes the Falcons naturally will be better in their second year under coach Jim Mora and in coordinator Greg Knapp's West Coast offense and coordinator Ed Donatell's 4-3 defense -- even after leading the league in rushing while skyrocketing from last in defense with the 3-4 scheme in 2003 to 14th in 2004. "We have a better sense of our defense," McKay said. "We've gotten faster at linebacker with [free agent] Ed Hartwell, [2004 rookie] DeMorrio Williams and [free agent] Ike Reese. Offensively, we're still a run-based team that relies on Michael Vick making plays with his arm and his feet. Michael has had two offseasons and a season to get comfortable in the West Coast offense. And we need our young receivers, Michael Jenkins and Roddy White, to step up now."

The Washington Redskins acknowledged yesterday that rookie cornerback Carlos Rogers has a pre-existing stress fracture in his right foot but said doctors' primary concern is a bone bruise in his right ankle. Rogers, the Redskins' top pick in the April draft, is expected to be in a walking boot and on crutches for two weeks and in a hard-bottom shoe for an additional two weeks. The team said he is expected to play sparingly when training camp begins Aug. 1
