Default Game: NFL "BLITZ"

Anyone listen top the Rome show today? The guest host was talking about the OLD NFL Blitz game. The NFL won't allow them to use NFL logos or names so the Blitz people decided to go all out on their game. They now have severe on field injuries where as a coach you can decide to shoot the player up with drugs so he can continue to play. You can also purposely try to hurt other players as well.

He said that on this game there is a certain black left handed QB that had Jersey Colors of Red and black. The name on the back of this player is "Mexico"!!!!!! How great is that?

This game really sounds lik a a nice change of pace and pretty humorous to say the least.

The people that created Blitz said that every little thing the NFL turned down of their previous games because it was too racy is now included on this game.

Ron Mexico? I wonder if there is an option where if a player is going to fail a drug test you can buy them the "whizzinator"

I'm sure i'll end up renting it and burning it for my collection.

Midway prepares to Blitz The League

Unlicensed football game sees a name change, more info to come in May.
LAS VEGAS--Midway has announced that its next football game will be known as Blitz the League. The game was previously shown under the name Blitz Playmakers. No reason was given for the change, but the game is still set to contain a story mode that goes "under the helmet" and shows things that are going on both on and off the field.

No video of the game running was shown, but a few screenshots, including one that showed a player spitting up a mouthful of blood onto the field and one that appeared to be showing a player winding up to punch another, were briefly displayed. Blitz the League is scheduled to be released on the Xbox and PlayStation 2 this fall. More information about the game will be revealed at E3 this May.

Pre-E3 2005: Blitz: The League
Snapping legs and crushing skulls. New info and gameplay video.
by Jon Robinson
May 6, 2005 - Win at any cost.

Blood, sweat, broken bones, and, well, more blood. That is the life of Blitz: The League. A game where painkillers are as much a part of weekly preparation as retooling the coaching staff, and your star player is as liable to get caught up in a criminal investigation as he is to score the game-winning touchdown.

From Peter Egan, writer of ESPN's Playmakers, one of the most underrated dramas of the past decade, and a show so brutal, it was rumored to be strong-armed off the air, comes a game equally as brutal, where cheap shots are the norm and your quarterback might go out like Joe Theisman if he's not careful (legs just aren't meant to bend that way).

And like the show, gamers are going to take control of a downtrodden football franchise, complete with front-office politics, off-field problems, the ability to bet on games and in-game achievements, and players who actually get "in the zone" in real-time gameplay. And when the zone is triggered, on-field action slows down and enables players to make the moves that smash mouths and win titles.

On both offense and defense players can execute timely special moves in the middle of the play. The moves will be position specific so quarterbacks can do special evasion moves when it's apparent they're going to be sacked. Running backs can power-through would-be tacklers. On defense, linebackers and safeties can throw dirty hits that can potentially cripple ball carriers. On most plays in Blitz: The League players can risk it all for a big payoff.

You can even check out some of the best touchdown celebrations of the last few years including Randy Moss' faux full-moon, Chad Johnson's photo-opp and Joe Horn's endzone cellphone call. There will be some vulgar generic celebrations too, but the banned-from-the-NFL acts should be the highlights.

WATCH THE VIDEO INTERVIEW

Click on the video link at the bottom of the page to check out the exclusive new video of Blitz featuring players talking smack, coaches yelling at trainers to get the star player back in the game (when a player is hurt you can either sit him out or "juice him up" with a huge needle), clotheslines that would make John Cena jealous, and some of the dirtiest defense ever seen, complete with a quarterback's leg getting snapped.

It's like the game is channeling the spirit of Lawrence Taylor.

And rumor has it, L.T.'s involvement will live beyond inspiration as you might see the controversial former Giant actually grace the cover of the game.

Sounds like a perfect fit for a man who once claimed to send prostitutes to an opponent's room the night before a game.

And the NFL gets its first black eye for giving EA a monopoly on the League. What a stupid move.

I might actually buy Blitz now... Not because of the Mexico thing, but the whole package has so much potential. Injuries on purpose, etc, could be really cool. I wonder if your quarterback will flip off the fans?

Actually... I'll probably rent it first, but it'll get a hard look from me.

Midway is pretty ballsy to burn down their bridges with the NFL and NFLPA.

what does midway care about burning bridges, as far as Midway is concerned for all intents and purposes they will never be able to make an NFL football game so they said ok then we will just stick it to the NFL by making a game that includes the dark side of professional sports...

I say more power to them.. and death to the NFLPA and EA

What bridges?

The NFL closed every bridge except for the one EA uses. EA/Madden is the only title that is allowed to use NFL/NFLPA Logos, Names, Etc.

EA/Madden doesn't have an infinite contract. I have no problem with the game. They obviously are trying to create the "Grand Theft Auto" of sports games. If it flops, they can pretty much forget making a legitimate sports game ever again. Then again, Midway has never been serious about making realistic sports games.

Fair enough on your point about the contract, but two things:

1) Madden is #1 and always will be, there's no way that contract isn't renewed over and over again.
2) They can't just sit back and make the same old game without the real logos and players. Nodody would buy it. They'd lose way too much money waiting for said contract to end. Hell, Ron Mexico by himself has everybody talking, not to mention everything else.

OK maybe not but it woul;d be a great Idea. How bad would it suck that your starting QB gets takin out by O.J.

Yes it will be, although all the Blitz games always have been. That is one thing Midway always got right, whether it be Blitz or NBA Jam, or whatever. It's fantasy, 3 on 3, whatever, and anybody can pick it up with the simple controls.

Not only that Atlas, but at some point, a dog will run out onto the field and trip your quarterback.

I was doing a litttle OJ research and came across this pic.

It's a crime scene pic of Ron Goldman. Don't click on it if you have a aquimish stomach.

I'd say they missed an opportunity. They should have gone for an MA rating.

Swearing on the field, ****ing on the sidelines, obscene gestures, the works.
