Default If shanahan quit after this year

If shanahan quit after this year what coach would you want to take his place.

I would hate if he left but if he did the only coaches i would want would be mooch or gruden those are the 2 coaches i like most besides shanny.

Jeff Fisher of the Titans is a coach that I think is really good. If Shanny left, he would be fine with me as a replacement.

I second Gruden, I think he would be a fine coach for the Broncos. But I have a sinking feeling that if Shanny were to leave they would promote Kubiak.

I'd give Kubiak or Turner a chance. They have earned it.

I would hope not, until he's at least had some experience on the college level.

I'm not thrilled about the idea of hiring a first time coach. Shanahan at least had a chance to evaluate what went wrong in Oakland, and then use his experience in SF to perfect his approach. I really think Kubiak stunted his growth by refusing the job with the Buffs.

How about Gruden as head coach, Gregg Williams as the D-Coordinator, leave Kubes in place?

I kind of disagree. Kubiak has been Shanny's right hand man since 1995. That is ten years in this organization. He knows absolutley everything that Shanny knows in how to prepare and motivate a team. Plus he had 10 years under Dan Reeves and 2 years in SF. Plus he is porbably more flexible than Shanny and will listen to others opinions more before making his own.

I'm confident that he knows how to be a head coach the only question is "would he be a good one?"

There's a difference between being a right hand man and being THE man.

It's the difference between being the Alpha Dog and the Beta Dog. Kubiak makes a fine Beta dog. He knows the pack inside and out. He knows the hunting grounds. He knows the hunting roles. He knows the pack order. But like all beta dogs, he is there because he has found favor with the Alpha dog. If the Alpha dog were to go, there's no telling if the Beta dog would be able to assume the role. It's just as likely that another dog in the pack could dominate the beta dog and become the new Alpha.

So without stretching the metaphore too thin, Kubiak had a chance to prove himself and become the Alpha dog of another organization. That would have led some insight into the question "would he be a good one?"

Personally, I think he probably would be a good HC, but I'd rather see him get experience as a head coach before he becomes The Broncos head coach. Refusing the Buffaloes job did stunt his growth, IMO, because the question of his ability as a head coach would be answered by now, instead of left up as a question mark. Instead, he's strapped himself with an image as Shanahan's boy, who might or might not pan out to be a good head coach. The fact that Jack Del Rio and Jim Mora Jr. now have HC jobs and Kubiak is still holding someone else's clipboard is about all the validation you need for that.

John Elway... he seems to be important to Colorado football success... (im only 5% serious). Im sketchy on the Gruden pick though. Kubiak, Fisher or put an offer out to Johnson (Eagles D Co.)

That won't be for at least three to five years, IMO. So long as he's got LT running for him, he'll be competitive. And so long as he's competitive, he'll have a job in SD.

I hope we don't lose Shanahan. If we do, I pray we keep Coach Turner. He's such a stud.

GM: The guy that drafts for New England
HC: Gary Kubiak, Jim Fassel or Norm Chow (Go Asians!!!)
OC: Booby Turner, Tim Brewster, or old WR coach Hiemdinger(sp)
DC: Wade Philps (Great DC, crappy HC), New England Secondary Coach (He got a WR to play DB well)

I think refusing the Buffalo job might have been the smartest thing he could have done. He might have gotten all tangled up in what has happened to CU the last two years and that would have killed his career right their.

All I know is that he could have had a job right now but he wanted to stay in Denver until his kids graduated from school. I know he desperatly wanted the A&M Job or the Texan job but wasn't considered for either.

I think I have a pretty good understanding of Bowlen and I think he would go after Kubes. Just like he wanted Shanny at first and then settled for Fat Boy.
He likes his organization and he would want to keep it running the same way.
