Woo hoo. Unfortunately the douchebag is 150 years old and going to drop dead soon anyway. At least it will be in prison. Damn, will taxpayers have to pay the cost of planting him?

If anyone hasn't seen "Mississippi Burning" (the movie based on this guy), I would advise you to rent it. It's a very good movie.

I'm glad he was found guilty.

What's sad is that alot of stuff went on such as "barbecues" in Texas years ago. Perhaps ERK should go through one of those as the "victim".

Have him do community service with his black brothers and sisters. Let him serve them. And I have no problem paying for his ass to die in prison.

Can't blame this one on California.

There were too many people like him who got off, and were free for the rest of their lives.

These "old" trials are sort of a joke because so many people are dead or senile, but miss. burning actually did happen. The Alec Baldwin character's real name in Bobby Delaughter. He was an asst DA at the time. He ran to become a trial judge, and won and has been re-elected. He ran to get on the state supreme court and didn't make it.

De le Beckwith assassinated Medger Evers (long before my time here, thank God), and it appears he did so pretty much on his own, though no doubt the Klan with Sam Bowers (who also was convicted of something years later) the grand mucky muck of the Klan, and possibly some others.

Killin conversely is said to be sort of the mastermind behind the killing of the 3 civil rights guys. Personally, it seems to me that it was all a show trial. I don't necessarily buy the Killin was really the guy who made the decision, though he may have been the chief among the thugs. And, they don't seem too interested in anybody else. Of course Killin was the one who really walked when the feds tried some guys for violations of civil rights before all white juries back in the 60s.

Beantown Bronco fact of life #37 - You are 5 times more likely to be convicted of murder in the U.S. if the media uses all 3 of your names throughout the trial process.

I agree it is sad that justice wasn't served on too many who engaged in this type of act. What's even more disgusting is that people engaged, proudly and with a sense of honor (amongst those who buy into this bull****). This may sound callous but it's not intended that way, but I consider those who died as a result of these acts casualties in a war for equality that should have never had to have been fought. But each time some jagoff redneck goes out and pulls some **** like this their cause ultimately suffers...which is, I hope, a small measure of solace for the families of the victims.

A little more recent is James Byrd. The Matthew Shepherd was another brutal murder.

Byrd thing was too crazy. I mean we just don't kill over race nowadays.

I used to drink in the bar Shepherd picked up with his killers. To be sure, the U of Wyo was not a gay hotbed (-:, but damn, there were guys and girls obviously 'out.' Killers were just underemployed undereducated scum, and not students. Thank God.

IIRC the defendants in the Byrd case weren't even slightly apologetic for their crimes. They felt they served the public good...in a twisted way they did, those ****stains no longer infest the planet.

I was surprised by the Shepherd case. In my experience in the MT and WY people may not like what you do with your life but they aren't the type to kill you over it. They generally figure what the hell, I've got other things to worry about.
