Default Hey Everybody! It's the U.S. Open! Geez...

I was waiting for somebody to start a thread. Golf gets no respect on the ole Mane. Anyway, Tiger is one under on the fifth hole of his second round. Phil took a mighty flop and fired a 77 today. Two time winner Retief is in the lead at 3 under, along with a couple of others who will flame out by Sunday. Lots a big names at the top of the board. Looking forward to an exciting finish.

The measure of a TRUE golf fan is someone who watches it before the final round. Sundays are the only times I tune in to golf. There's usually some great drama surrounding the finish.

as many of you here know im a golf fanatic.
i mean a complete fanatic.

i watch as many rounds of every tournament as i can, i subscribe to golf mag, golf digest, and golf tips.
i play whenever possible, i go to the driving range sometimes at lunch here at work, and i even practice with foam balls at home.
i love the game.

this is an exciting Open, and i cant wait to see how it plays out.
olin browne will flame out, goosen will stay tough but i dont see him winning again, jacobsen is an amazing story especially after his recent hole in one but he's past his prime, freddy is playing well which is great to see....and tiger is in the hunt.
he just airmailed a green, but i think come tomorrow he'll be right there.
if anyone can equal mr. jones' grand slam accomplishment, its tiger.
if he could just find some consistency with his driver, he'd be every bit as dominant as he was in '00.

should be a great finish. im off to watch now.
since i cant play for awhile after the accident, at least i can watch!!

I'm with you, Jake, I'll watch every bit I can.

But I disagree with you, if I was a betting man, I'd lay money on Goosen.

And I think Furyk will be there close tomorrow. Tiger will have to get on a real role, but he's not making any putts.

I'm a final day lurker myself at best but I do enjoy playing from time to time. I'm not any good but there is nothing like sipping on an ice cold brewski overlooking the beautiful Rocky Mountains cussing at a golf club.

BTW Jake. #1Broncosfan and I met up yesterday and we were talking about getting in a round a golf at his new place. His neighborhood has a small golf course that is free to residents and his guests! We plan on hitting the course sometime in the next month or so if you can go.

I think I've hit a golf ball a couple of times when I was seeing triple after a hard day at the bar, other than that....I've never played the game.

I do know that it takes over people like Invasion of the body snatchers or something....during a conversation with these guys, once you drop the "G" word, it's usually all over from there.....you've entered golf city and usually there's no turning back.

Nothing like having a free golf course, when I lived in Broomfield I almost got a townhouse in Greenway Park, right off of 120th Ave, they had a small par 3 course that was free to residents and only $7 for the general public. Cute little course and a great way to learn to play. You can never place enough importance on the short game.

ya i love golf, and hey free is good. I pay 6-10 bucks down at the course down by my house. Its a par 3 but has 2 par 4's and a par 5. Those 3 holes are real fun, and after hitting a bunch of short holes its fun to use you driver for sure.

BTW, Goosen has all but won this open, no way i see tiger winning now.

I thought you might be talking about that course. Cool. I've had a lot of fun out there. Your friend should take advantage of the free golf and play every day after work, it's a nice little walk.

Tiger is on the prowl, only 3 shots back now. The pros can't handle these Pinehurst greens, they are like saddles. They could have practiced at the Mad Russian up in Milliken to get a feel for greens like that.

The US Open is an USGA event. I think the USGA trys to challenge the pros much more than the PGA. I like it when the pros struggle like the rest of us as opposed to shooting -25 or so.

Kiwi surprise

Congratulations to Michael Campbell

Sport and Recreation Minister Trevor Mallard today congratulated New Zealand golfer Michael Campbell for achieving a world first for New Zealand in the international golfing arena by becoming the first kiwi ever to win the US Golf Open.

"Huge congratulations to Michael Campbell. This is a major achievement for Michael personally, and a major milestone for New Zealand sport. I am sure many New Zealanders, like me, have been on tenterhooks all morning as we watched Michael's final nerve-wracking march to victory.

"The last New Zealander to do so brilliantly in the professional golf arena was Bob Charles who until now was the only kiwi to have won a major title - winning the British Open in 1963 - 42 years ago.

"Michael himself shot into prominence on the international golfing circuit when he came close to winning the British Open in 1995, ending third equal just two years after turning professional. That year he also finished fourth on the European Tour.

"It's great to see that Michael hung in there, and returned to form after being plagued by injury following that success. It is a testament to not only his skills as a golfer but also to his dedication and commitment that sees him reaching a pinnacle of his sport today.

"This is fantastic news," Trevor Mallard said.

How about Gore...tied for second...ends up 39th with an 84 for the day

Man, talk about the wheels comin' off the wagon

Then again, I absolutely hate Pinehurst...it's not 'honest' in a golfing sense...you're not really playing the lay of the land...not the natural lay of the land anyway.

You might've noticed all the greens are crowned...like a muffin.

Maybe it's funny to watch that perfectly placed shot go rambling off the side...along with any hope, but good shots should be rewarded IMO.

I absolutely love the British Open...links courses are nasty.
