A New Import
Broncos Add Congo Native Majondo-Mwamba Through League's International Development Program
By Andrew Mason
DenverBroncos.com

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- The final roster cutdown and the naming of the practice squad is still nearly three months away, but the Broncos already know who one of their practice-squad players will be.

Tuesday, the team was assigned defensive lineman Patrice Majondo-Mwamba as part of the league's International Development Practice Squad. Majondo-Mwamba is a native of the Congo who grew up in Belgium, and is one of eight players placed on NFL practice squads for the coming season and the only one from Belgium.

The other seven players include three Germans, two Finns, and one each from the United Kingdom and Norway. There is one international player in the program on each club in the AFC West and the NFC South for the coming season.

Majondo-Mwamba first came to the United States in high school. He arrived at Texas Tech in 2002, following his cousin Loliki Bongo-Wanga, who joined the Red Raiders a year earlier. Both had matriculated at Hartnell Community College in Salinas, Calif. before transferring to Tech, but Majondo-Mwamba had never played a down of football before being asked to try out at Hartnell.

A year later, he notched a 67-tackle, 11-sack season that drew the attention of Division I-A recruiters, including representatives from California, San Jose State, San Diego State and Penn State.

He was recruited to Tech as a defensive end, but lined up at tackle and saw action throughout the 2003 and 2004 seasons, notching 33 tackles (22 solo), one sack (1 yd.), five tackles-for-loss (29 yds.), one pass breakup and one forced fumble.

Two months ago, Majondo-Mwamba joined the Rhein Fire of the NFL Europe League five games into its 2005 season and played in three contests.

Denver also signed guard Zach Wilson; he will fill one of the team's NFL Europe exemption slots. Wilson played this past season with the Cologne Centurions and was a four-year starter at Southern California.

We need Bongo-Wanga and Majondo-Mwamba on this team! I don't care if they can't play, sign them now! Imagine the play-by-play possibilities!

Well, at least now he can look forward to a long, successful career writing for all those edgy, underground magazines out there, such as NFL Homo-Erotic Fantasies Monthly and The Radier Diaries.
